Marriott signs two exciting new W Hotels in Italy

Two of Italy’s most desirable hotspots join W Hotels growing Italian portfolio  (Imagery: Marriott)

Marriott International has announced the signing of new W Hotels in the Italian cities of Milan and Naples.

W Milan – Duomo and W Naples are both expected to make their debut in 2024 as a part of the brand’s overall growth in the country.

Brand growth across Italy

Following on from the recent opening of W Rome and 2021 signing of W Florence, the W Hotels brand is heightening its presence in Italy with the signing of these two new hotels.

“We are thrilled to announce the signing of W Milan – Duomo with Gruppo Marseglia and W Naples with Solido S.p.A,” said Gianleo Bosticco, senior director of development in Italy for Marriott International.

“The spirited cities of Milan and Naples have long been a destination of choice for global jetsetters, and we’re delighted to answer to the growing demand for luxury lifestyle hotels with these two significant signings.”

Entering Italy’s fashion capital

W Milan – Duomo will pair the W Hotels brand’s distinct design-led identity with inspiration taken from this hotel’s locale in Milan’s fashion district. The hotel will be located within walking distance of sites including Piazza del Duomo, Teatro alla Scala and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele.

The hotel will take over a building that was originally built as a bank in the 1920s. Designed by Milan-based architects Stefano Boeri Architetti and international design firm Yabu Pushelberg, the hotel will combine the city’s classic grandeur with the brand’s bold aesthetic.

The property will house 166 guest rooms and 36 suites including the Extreme WOW Suite, along with facilities including the brand’s signature WET deck with views of the Duomo, a rooftop bar, W Lounge and a signature restaurant, as well as AWAY Spa, an indoor pool and fitness centre.

“We are delighted to work with Marriott International on this exciting project, which will become a new point of reference in Milan for luxury lifestyle under the socially driven W brand,” said Leonardo Marseglia, chairman of Marseglia Group. “W Milan – Duomo will be an icon in the city for years to come.” 

A new social hub in Naples

In Naples, W Naples aims to become a focal point of the historical Piazza del Municipio square. Also housed in a former bank, the hotel will open following a multi-million-pound renovation in which the historic facade will be preserved.

Positioned just steps from the ancient Via Toledo, among a number of landmark sites, and within walking distance of Molo Beverello Port, the hotel will provide a base for exploring the city and surroundings.

This property promising to bring together noble grandeur, culinary delicacies and high fashion sartoria will accommodate guests in 78 guest rooms, including 17 suites, some of which are to have private terraces. In interiors designed by Rockwell Group, facilities will include a signature restaurant, W Lounge and fitness centre.
