Marriott International expects to quadruple its portfolio in Vietnam with 30 signed hotels now in the pipeline.

This planned expansion will signify several brand debuts and entries to new destinations across the country.

Countrywide growth

Following the reopening of Vietnam’s borders, Marriott International has announced its significant expansion plans in the country.

The group currently plans to add almost 9,000 rooms to the country’s portfolio, with brands including Ritz-Carlton Residences, Marriott Hotels, Westin and Courtyard by Marriott making their debut.

“Vietnam experienced impressive pre-pandemic economic growth driven in part by coordinated development policies and the strong investment in infrastructure,” said Rajeev Menon, president, Asia Pacific (excluding Greater China), Marriott International.

“Our growth in Vietnam reflects the trust our local owners and franchisees continue to have in Marriott International, and we look forward to presenting them with opportunities to leverage our comprehensive portfolio of 30 brands, as well as our strong distribution network.”

The group currently operates 10 properties across Vietnam. Together these hotels comprise 3,294 rooms and span six of the company’s hotel brands.

Burgeoning hotel segments

Through this expansion, the group will continue the success its premium brands have had here. Sheraton Hotels & Resorts is expected to debut in several new locations including Phu Quoc, Ha Long Bay, Dalat and Binh Chau.

A new property in the Renaissance Hotels collection is planned for Danang and hotels under the Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts brand are planned for Danang and Cam Ranh. The group’s flagship Marriott Hotels will arrive in Hanoi and Hoi An, Westin is planned for Hanoi and Cam Ranh and the Marriott Executive Apartments long-stay brand is entering Danang.

Driving growth in its select service portfolio, the group then plans to introduce Fairfield by Marriott to locations including Vinh Yen, Ha Long and Hanoi while also bringing Courtyard by Marriott hotels to Danang, Ha Long and Nha Trang.

In terms of branded residential developments, the group has almost 190 projects open or under development across the globe, with Asia Pacific (excluding China) standing out as the fastest growing region for properties in this segment.

In 2021, the group announced a new milestone branded residential project for Ho Chi Minh City, with completion expected in late 2024. The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Hanoi is also planned for 2024 completion.

“Vietnam is a vibrant destination and has over the years experienced record levels of tourism as international travellers flocked to the country and domestic travellers began to discover the many wonders available in their own backyard,” said Jakob Helgen, area vice president – Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia & Myanmar, Marriott International.

“With the recent reopening of borders, we are hopeful for Vietnam to rebound rapidly, and we are excited to expand across even more parts of this captivating country.”
