Industry giant Marriott is often at the forefront of technological innovations within the hotel world. And 2018 looks set to be another good year for the group in terms of trial programs that will blaze a trail. Marriott has partnered with leading business media brand Fast Company to create the Inspiration Collective. So what’s it all about?
Putting products front and centre
Today, the modern traveler is worldly and discerning. They have more than a cursory knowledge of design, and are always up on the latest and greatest gadgets. And Marriott knows that this is the kind of traveler they want. So they have teamed up with Fast Company to launch a new initiative called the Inspiration Collective, a collection of carefully curated products, services and experiences that are displayed alongside an interface that can be interacted with by hotel guests. The idea is that Fast Company’s Recommender column will be mined for the best products and services that they think will be of interest to Marriott customers. These products are designed to inspire, and are used by executives, creatives and entrepreneurs all over the world, so Marriott customers can see what the who’s who is using.
Original products, innovative interface
The Inspiration Collective will take the form of a display wall, which will have an interactive touch screen displaying the entire collection of products curated by Fast Company for Marriott. Not only this, but the experience will also be enhanced by having real, physical products displayed alongside the screen, so guests can compare and contrast the products in reality as well as virtually. Mara Hannula, VP Brand Marketing for Marriott Hotels, says, “We believe that travel expands the mind and stimulates new ways of thinking. Our guests value originality and crave new experiences so Marriott Hotels is constantly evolving to provide new aesthetically inspiring spaces and innovative ideas. There is no better partner than Fast Company to bring cutting edge inspiration to life on property. Technology and new gadgets change and shape how we live and travel every day, and the Inspiration Collective allows us to introduce and test them alongside our guests.” The scheme is to launch in a number of Marriott hotels across the US, and the first one started in December of last year in the Brooklyn Marriott.
