Marriott International is one of the hospitality industry’s most successful and well recognised brands, and in recent times it has also shown itself to be one of the keenest to embrace new technologies that are shaping the world we live in today. As TOPHOTELNEWS has previously reported, the hotel chain has shown itself as being far from shy about taking on technological innovations that may be daunting to such an established industry as hospitality. Instead, it has partnered with drone manufacturers and even created its own incubator, aiming to lead the trend.
This time, Marriott has joined forces with renowned electronics company LG to further pursue their futuristic goal. Following on from an ever-increasing trend of smart hotels, Marriott employs technology in its hotels with a view to maximising guest comfort and making the customer experience more efficient and hassle-free. Their partnership with LG has begun with the “smart”-ening of one of their flagship hotels in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. The Charlotte Marriott City Centre has been given the tech-treatment to become the brand’s “living innovation hotel”, and LG has been instrumental in bringing the vision for the hotel to life.
The 32 year old hotel has been transformed by LG Electronics and LG Digital Signage into a living, breathing hotel for the future. In the reception and on every floor, guests are greeted by a information board which displays wayfinding, events and the date, time and weather. Guests can also complete some of their check-in using computers, cutting down on admin times. The hotel is a part of the M-Beta Project, which encourages guests to easily give feedback on hotel services by pushing a “Like” button for each are in the hotel. Guest rooms are equipped with 55 inch screens which the user can hook up to his or her phone or laptop. Even the leisure centre has automated training facilities, giving you your own personal trainer via high definition screen. The innovations made at Charlotte Marriott are intended to be rolled out across all Marriott’s hotels in the future.
