The Chinese city of Wuhan is to welcome a milestone development which should help it recover after being the original epicentre of the covid pandemic.

Marriott International has signed an agreement with Yuexiu Property to bring its iconic luxury Ritz-Carlton brand to the metropolis’ downtown.

Skyscraping centre

Expected to open at the end of 2024, The Ritz-Carlton, Wuhan will occupy the upper levels of The Yuexiu Global Financial Center T5 Grand A Office Tower, a 330-metre-tall skyscraper in Wuhan’s traditional city centre of Hankou.

The hotel’s lobby, ballroom, meeting rooms, and certain food and beverage facilities will be housed in another three lower levels of the same building. The guestrooms are slated to feature panoramic views of the urban city.

Foodservice and fitness

Interiors are set to be designed by London-based KCA International. The property will feature 205 rooms and suites and four distinct culinary venues, including a lobby lounge.

Plans also call for an anticipated Club Lounge, a signature Ritz-Carlton Spa with a fitness centre and a swimming pool, and a total of 1,130 sq m in event space, including a 680 sq m ballroom.

Luxury growth

Gavin Yu, chief development officer, Greater China, Marriott International, said: “We are thrilled to introduce The Ritz-Carlton brand to Wuhan, one of the largest cities in Central China.
