The Ghanaian capital of Accra received its first Marriott hotel, which also marks the hotel giant’s debut in West Africa. We find out more about this new venture.

West African dreams with Marriott

As the African market continues to grow, more and more hoteliers, developers and big name hotel brands are betting on the continent as a new frontier in hospitality that is ready to be tapped into. This is clearly what is on hospitality goliath Marriott’s mind as they opened their first branded hotel in Accra, the forward-thinking capital of West African country Ghana. Their press release on the new property states its intention in no uncertain terms: “208 room hotel brings modern, elegant design, and an elevated guest experience to the progressive capital city.” Billed as the “Gateway to West Africa”, the Accra Marriott Hotel is located in the heart of Airport City, an up and coming business development located just outside of the city centre, and directly opposite Kotoka International Airport. This prime location allows guest access to the airport itself, as well as the major corporate businesses and government bodies located within Airport City.

An enticing proposition

As Africa begins to feature more on the international tourism map, it is no wonder that Ghana, with its diverse wildlife and idyllic coastline, is a tempting proposition for Marriott. , President and Managing Director, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International, says, “We are thrilled to open the Accra Marriott Hotel, a highly anticipated addition to our Africa portfolio and a significant milestone in our journey. Accra is the heartbeat of Ghana, a dynamic city bustling with energy. A commercial, manufacturing, and communications center with great shopping and excellent nightlife, it makes an interesting travel destination both for business and for leisure. The Accra Marriott Hotel adds to the city’s maturing hospitality scene, inspiring guests with more forward-thinking experiences and aesthetically inspiring spaces that speak to their inventive nature.”

The hotel boasts 208 guest rooms and suites, three dining areas, meeting spaces for corporate events, a health and fitness centre and conference facilities. The hotel features Marriott’s signature services as well as contemporary design with regional flourishes, and incorporates the latest cutting edge technologies that Marriott is known for pioneering to enable it to stay ahead of the curve. The hotel is ideal for business or leisure travelers who wish to delve into the magical prospects that West Africa has to offer. width=Let’s take a look at a few other projects currently underway by Marriott International:Edition Hotel Barcelona
