Climate-risk profiles, a Biodiversity Kids Club, vocational education, and a 2050 net-zero pathway are among the commitments in a new group-wide sustainability plan

Mandarin Oriental has introduced MO.RE, a new sustainability platform and manifesto for the hotel group. The company says it will guide decisions across the full life of a hotel, from investment and development to design, operations, and the guest experience. It is built on three pillars: Resilience, Reconnection, and Regeneration. The group says the platform moves beyond compliance-led action and puts sustainability at the center of how it grows.

The launch follows fifteen years of work toward the group’s 2030 targets. Mandarin Oriental reports a 33 percent cut in Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions over that period. Colleagues have also contributed more than 80,000 volunteer hours. Laurent Kleitman, Group Chief Executive, said the platform moves sustainability from the margins to the core of the business.

Three Pillars, Several Programs

Resilience focuses on preparing hotels and their destinations for a changing climate. Each property will receive a climate-risk profile that identifies local risks and adaptation priorities. The group is also setting a new decarbonization pathway to reach net zero by 2050. It plans to give itself a clearer view of Scope 3 emissions, which cover impacts across the value chain.

Reconnection centers on what guests and colleagues experience at the hotels. Family, culinary, and wellness programs will draw on nature, culture, and the surrounding destination. The group is developing a Biodiversity Kids Club concept to help young guests learn about and protect nature. It will also hold annual MO Family Days, which are designed to bring colleagues and their families together.

Regeneration looks at how hotels can support the places where they operate. The group says it will invest in ecosystems, communities, skills, and living cultural heritage. Planned efforts include:

  • Biodiversity preservation, with a focus on protecting and restoring priority habitats
  • Vocational education to widen access to hospitality skills and careers
  • Arts and crafts support for artists, artisans, and living cultural heritage
  • A Celebrity Fans charity program, which will enlist the group’s ambassadors to back community causes

A Logo with Roots in Wuxing

The MO.RE logo draws on the group’s Asian heritage. It takes inspiration from Wuxing, an ancient Chinese philosophy of five dynamic and interdependent elements. That worldview holds that balance, interconnection, and constant change shape lasting harmony. The company says the design presents sustainability as a living system in which each action builds momentum.

The logo’s continuous form reflects how the three pillars relate to one another. Its central point marks a shift from incremental progress to larger change. Kandé Camara, Chief of Staff and Group Director of Sustainability, said, “MO.RE aligns our business decisions with what guests increasingly value: distinctive places, deeper connections to destinations, and hospitality that contributes to their future. Our ambition is to make sustainability a business priority, a shared commitment with our partners, and a joyful experience for our guests.”

Mandarin Oriental owns and operates hotels, resorts, and residences around the world. Each property reflects the group’s dual Asian heritage and features a fan made by local artisans. The group now runs 47 hotels, 16 residences, and 44 homes across 30 countries and territories.
