Mandarin Oriental breezes into the Balearics

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is to manage a new beach resort on the island of Mallorca, Spain, scheduled to open during the second half of 2024.

The new luxury resort is being developed by Spanish based Blasson Property Investments and comprises a significant reconstruction and redesign of the former H10 Punta Negra hotel which occupies a peninsula on the Costa d’en Blanes in the southwest of the island.

Resort renaming

Following the completion of the renovation, the hotel will be named Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca.

The resort spreads over 3 hectares of landscaped cliff tops and gardens leading down to the sea, where it offers access to two coves surrounded by crystalline waters.

Keys and cuisine

Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca will feature 131 guestrooms, including 44 suites and nine bungalows located near the waterfront. The accommodation will provide full or partial sea views, outdoor terraces or balconies, some of which offer private panoramic plunge pools.

A range of cuisines will be offered at a variety of local and international restaurants to make it a destination for both locals and visitors. Indoor and outdoor event spaces will provide a backdrop for meetings and social gatherings, including a garden suitable for wedding celebrations.

Range of relaxation

A Spa at Mandarin Oriental will offer the group’s signature wellness therapies and beauty treatments, with a focus on local nature-inspired programmes. The spa includes an indoor swimming pool, while three outdoor pools are located across the resort. Guests will also have access to a range of watersports as well as a Children’s Club.

The resort’s new contemporary design is being created by HKS and Spanish architect practice Estudio Lamela, while the interior design, featuring many local cultural references, is being overseen by designer, Laura Gonzalez.

Sustainability ethos

James Riley, group chief executive of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group said: “We are delighted at this opportunity to bring Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service to this extraordinary beachfront resort in the Balearics, and we look forward to collaborating with Blasson Property Investments to develop a luxury hotel that will be designed and constructed with a strong sustainability ethos.

“Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca will be a welcome complement to our hotels in Barcelona and Madrid and we are extremely pleased to be expanding Mandarin Oriental’s presence into another important leisure destination in Europe.”

Rare opportunity

Francisco J. Meliá of Blasson Property Investments added: “We are pleased to partner with one of the most prestigious brands in luxury hospitality on this exciting project, which will offer visitors an outstanding luxury resort where they can relax in comfort and enjoy the legendary service of Mandarin Oriental. This is a rare opportunity to create a new hotel with such an iconic location in the beautiful island of Mallorca.”

The Balearic signing joins a pipeline within southern Europe which includes Mandarin Oriental Cristallo Cortina, a refurbishment of an existing 83-key historic hotel in Italy, due to complete in Q2 2025; and the 99-room Mandarin Oriental Costa Navarino, set to arrive in Greece this June.
