Los Angeles will not only be famous for being the home of most celebrities but it will also be famous for its pipeline growth. It is a fact that Los Angeles is one of the most substantial economic engines within the United States, with a diverse economy in a broad range of professional and cultural fields.
, responsible for the US market for TOPHOTELPROJECTS the leading research provider in the hospitality industry, shares her insights on the region:
2018’s little steps
This year was probably not the one for new openings compared to the years to come. However, four hotels were set to open in 2018. One of them is already open. We are talking about the NoMad Los Angeles. The project implied the conversion of the GIannini Building into a Hotel. Another opening that this year will see is the one of The Godfrey Hotel Hollywood. This five-star hotel will feature 220 rooms and will be aimed for the corporate world.
A home run for 2019
Although 2018 was not the year for hotel openings, 2019 breaks the glass and gets hold of 17 projects. Of those 17, 12 are already under construction. One of them is the Park Hyatt Oceanwide Plaza Tower I. Located in the vibrant South Park neighborhood of downtown Los Angeles, the Park Hyatt Oceanwide Plaza Tower will offer, in addition to top-tier lifestyle offerings, access to a world class fitness center, children’s play area, basketball court, two dog parks and pet grooming services.
A few blocks away, there is a plan for a new hotel tower that will be directly connected to the existing JW Marriott L.A Live and Ritz-Carlton Los Angeles hotels by means of a bridge across Olympic Blvd. Designed to reflect its location in Downtown Los Angeles, the JW Marriott at L.A. Live already provides a deluxe level of comfort and personal service within a unique hotel environment. Guests enjoy convenient access to L.A., whether visiting the revitalized downtown area or other parts of the city.
2020 keeps the pace
2020 keeps the rhythm with 14 new openings set for that year. Half of this hotel projects are not planned to be located in the centre of the city, just like the Citizenm Hollywood & Vine which will be located at Vine Street. It will be a 14-story boutique hotel, featuring multiple food and beverage venues and three levels of underground parking. Going further north, there is a proposed Home 2 Suites by Hilton, intended to replace an office building that would feature guest rooms with ground-floor retail space, a meeting room, a gym, a pool, and basement parking for 136 vehicles.
Set for the end of 2020 and located just across from L.A. Live, there is a mixed-use development being planned. The development will have different stages. When the first one is completed completed, the development will feature a total of three towers including the W Los Angeles Downtown, approximately 650 unbranded residential condominium units and up to 80,000 sq. ft. of premium retail and restaurant space. This project is indeed in the city-centre.
2021 and beyond
The following years will bring the opening of 6 hotels. So, long plans for the future of L.A. Two are already set for 2024. We are talking about the SLS Los Angeles Angels Landing and the Mondrian Hotel Los Angeles Angels Landing. The mixed-use development will include an 88-story skyscraper, the SLS, and a 27-story tower, the Mondrian. These two towers will be linked via a sky bridge. Also included are apartments, condominiums; apartments, retail and restaurant space, including a food hall, as well as a charter elementary school. Planned for the project is 57,000 square feet of open space, including a 25,400-square-foot plaza.
Getting back in time, 2021 will see the opening of the Paramount Hotel Los Angeles. Paramount Hotels & Resorts is making its US debut with a new development in the heart of Los Angeles, California on the iconic Sunset Boulevard. The complex’s architecture is modern and playful yet seamlessly integrates into the existing urban fabric. The hotel itself, reminiscent of old Hollywood Glamour and introducing the industry’s latest technology, features rooms and suites as well as Paramount Hotels & Resorts’ signature Meeting & Event Spaces, F&B venues, Wellness & Fitness Centre and Outdoor Pool Deck. However, it’s the unique hotel cabins on the Pool Deck, the Speakeasy and the Art Gallery on the ground floor that will get people talking.
