Langham Hospitality Group sets sail for Venice

A historic building fronting the Venetian Lagoon on the picturesque island of Murano will soon become Langham Hospitality Group’s first property in Italy.

Following extensive renovations overseen by Matteo Thun & Partners, a historic building fronting the Venetian Lagoon on the picturesque island of Murano will soon become Langham Hospitality Group’s first property in Italy.

Since starting life in London in 1865 as Europe’s first ‘grand hotel’, The Langham’s reputation has grown enormously, and its instantly recognisable name now adorns one the world’s most influential hotel groups.

Superb lagoon-front location

Now, following the opening of The Langham Residence, Nymphenburg, Munich earlier this year, the group is expanding its European foothold with the announcement of The Langham Venice, due to launch in 2023.

“Venice remains one of the world’s leading leisure destinations and we are delighted to have found such an exceptional site on which to develop our first hotel in Italy,” said Stefan Leser, chief executive officer of Langham Hospitality Group. “The Langham, Venice will provide an exclusive leisure experience that blends the finest elements of the local Venetian culture and heritage with personalised intuitive service that are the hallmarks of The Langham luxury experience.”

The 138-key Langham Venice will occupy the former Casino Mocenigo on the southeastern shore of the island of Murano, best known for its centuries-old tradition of glassmaking, a short stroll away from Basilica dei Santa Maria e San Donato and Museo del Vetro.

Impressive frescoes balanced by simple interiors

Inside, Milan-based architecture studio Matteo Thun & Partners will take its cues from the building’s 400-year-old legacy, inserting deceptively simple and sustainable aesthetics that sit alongside the impressive classical-themed frescoes and standout architectural features, such as the magnificent courtyard, which will house the outdoor swimming pool, manicured garden and outdoor dining spaces.

These dining spaces will include two restaurants serving a variety of cuisines and a cooking school, as well as al fresco bars, one of which will be located on the rooftop. Elsewhere, guests can look forward to sampling the group’s signature Chuan Spa, offering treatments based on the philosophies of traditional Chinese medicine, a fitness centre, an elegant ballroom and a series of multifunctional rooms.

Leser concluded: “The opening of The Langham, Venice will be an important milestone for the brand as we continue to cultivate our presence in Europe. We look forward to elevating our guests’ extraordinary experiences at this spectacular hotel, and we are proud to play a part in upholding the fine traditions of Venetian luxury hospitality.”

Langham Hospitality Group encompasses a family of distinctive hospitality brands, which include hotels, resorts, residential serviced apartments, restaurants and spas, located on four continents.
