Fast-growing IHG brand Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has expanded into Mexico with the launch of a luxury lifestyle property, Kimpton Aluna Hotel, in Tulum.

Visitors to Tulum now have yet another elegant accommodation option on Mexico’s Mayan Riviera. We find out more about Kimpton Aluna Hotel.

A new luxury lifestyle haven for Tulum

Situated close to almost 1,000 acres of biosphere reserve, and tucked away amidst lush greenery, the hotel feels a world away from the busy city, which can nevertheless be reached in only a few minutes.

Guests can look forward to sweeping views of the ocean from the 72 rooms and six suites, which each come with a private terrace. A welcoming gathering space is open to guests and locals alike, inviting people to mix and mingle while enjoying signature food and drink from the onsite F&B venues.

In addition, there are two outdoor pools and a swim-up bar offering refreshments on the water, while a rooftop bar serves up splendid views alongside high-quality drinks. The property also includes a fitness centre and an open-air yoga studio.

The perfect base for exploration

Set on the southern tip of the Mayan Riviera, Tulum is close to beautiful natural sites as well as historical landmarks.

Guests at Kimpton Aluna Hotel will be only a short drive away from beautiful cenotes, ancient Mayan ruins, the Mesoamerican Coral Reef and the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. After exploring all these spectacular sites, the hotel’s spa offers the perfect ending to the day with its range of relaxing, restorative treatments.

Operating with trusted, established partners

Originally the property launched in 2018 as part of the upscale Aldea Zama community. Today, it’s the first hotel under the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brand to open in Mexico, although two more properties are planned for Mexico City in 2021.

Mike DeFrino, CEO at Kimpton, commented: “We’re thrilled to welcome the Kimpton Aluna Hotel to the Kimpton family. This opening officially establishes our brand in Mexico, and provides an incredible opportunity for us to take part in the extremely rich culture and growing market of Tulum. We look forward to furthering IHG’s trusted relationship with Grupo Presidente to offer guests Kimpton’s trademark amenities and heartfelt service.”

While the hotel is owned by Hotelera Vezzpa, Grupo Presidente will manage the property. Part of Grupo Gigante, Grupo Presidente has also developed several well-known restaurant brands such as Au Pied De Cochon, the Palm Restaurant and Alfredo Di Roma.

Braulio Arsuaga, CEO, Grupo Presidente, commented: “We are very proud to strengthen our long-time partnership with InterContinental Hotels Group, and welcome this new brand to the Grupo Presidente portfolio with the opening of the Kimpton Aluna Hotel in Tulum.”

According to the TOPHOTELCONSTRUCTION online database, more than 30 hotel projects are currently in Kimpton’s pipeline:
