Sankara Nairobi sees a role for itself in presenting works by some of the best East African artists.

Marriott debuts its first Autograph Collection Hotel, the Sankara Nairobi, in the Kenyan capital

This is Kenya’s first hotel to be part of the collection which boasts over 170 hotels worldwide. We find out more.

Individuality and distinction in Nairobi

Marriott’s Autograph Collection is known for its portfolio of singular properties, each boasting its own unique identity, but with all signature services Marriott is known for.

Announced at the beginning of May, the Sankara Nairobi will mark the Autograph Collection’s first property in Kenya. The hotel is set in the bustling Westlands neighbourhood of the capital, close to entertainment, retail and commercial amenities.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sankara Nairobi, a distinctive hotel which evokes the spirit and heritage of this vibrant city, to our portfolio. As the first Autograph Collection Hotel in Kenya, Sankara Nairobi is a significant addition to our rapidly growing portfolio in the region and a testament to our conversion-friendly strategy,” said Alex Kyriakidis President and Managing Director, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International.

“The hotel perfectly embodies the brand’s unique perspective on design, craft, hospitality and its ‘Exactly Like Nothing Else’ philosophy. This rebranding is in lockstep with the growing demand from consumers and their desire for differentiated experiences wherever they travel.”

The Sankara Nairobi lies only a short distance from the city’s airports and is close to the UN headquarters and lively downtown area. The property boasts 168 rooms, the crowning glory of which is the Presidential Suite, a luxurious enclave fit for a king.

Upon arrival, guests can taste the hotel’s signature local drink, the “Sankara Kombe”, before trying out one of the many restaurants on offer. Global cuisine and seasonal produce are the order of the day at Artisan, or meat lovers can head to the New-York style steakhouse Graze. Pastries and coffee start guests off on the right foot from the Paris-inspired Opera Patisserie, and The Gallery is a gourmet food and wine bar.

“We are excited to join the brand’s global portfolio of iconic hotels around the world and deliver a thoughtfully curated and authentic experience,” said Krishna Unni, Group General Manager of Sankara Hotel Group.

“Socially and culturally immersive, Sankara Nairobi creates a vibrant and warm character that is deeply ingrained in the art, culture and lifestyle of Nairobi. We are confident that Sankara Nairobi will soon emerge as a preferred choice for travellers to Nairobi welcoming both Marriott International’s loyal members as well as new guests”.
