With the signing of its new Makkah property, Kempinski further expands its presence in the Gulf where it already enjoys an impeccable reputation.

Kempinski Hotels recently announced the signing of a new project in the heart of Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

The new luxury hotel is slated to be the flagship edifice of the new boulevard on King Abdul Aziz Road mega project and is set to debut in 2023.

Makkah’s newest luxury offering

At the signing ceremony at the Emerald Palace Kempinski Dubai, the hotel group’s CEO and the CEO of the partnering company Umm Al Qura (UAQ) finalised the agreement for Kempinski’s latest project in the Middle East.

The new property will feature 380 rooms and suites, each of which will be at least 42 square metres in size. Furthermore, the hotel will offer state-of-the-art amenities to create a luxurious experience for pilgrims visiting the holy city.

An all-day-dining restaurant, speciality venues, a Levantine outlet and a generous coffee lounge in the sky lobby create a well-rounded culinary offering. A grand ballroom and spacious meeting rooms will cater to discerning business travellers.

“With our newly signed hotel project in Makkah, we will be present in the most important destination within Saudi Arabia and the world’s holiest city of Islam,” said Martin R. Smura, Chief Executive Officer Kempinski Hotels and Chairman of the Kempinski Management Board.

“We are proud that, together with Umm Al Qura for Development & Construction, a locally very well-established and highly respected real estate company, we will play a major role in shaping the all-new KAAR boulevard which links our new project in Makkah with our previously signed property in Al Madina. A presence in the two cities will allow us to boost exponentially the performance of both hotels while merging very well with the country’s famous vision for 2030,” Mr Smura elaborated.

A prominent location for one of Makkah’s prime hotels

Kempinski Hotel Makkah will form the key edifice in King Abdul Aziz Road (KAAR), a lifestyle project designed as a gateway for pilgrims travelling to and from the holy city. The Kempinski will have the honour of being at the closest point to the Holy Haram mosque.

The KAAR project’s goal is to combine transit options, high-end hospitality, commercial centres, restaurants, business and residential areas to cater to both local residents and guests arriving for Hajj and Umrah.

This new development is connected to the Haramain High-Speed Railway station which links the cities of Makkah, Jeddah and Madina. This is good news for Kempinski, which is launching another property in Al Madina by 2022.

“We are proud to announce that we will build up Kempinski Hotel Makkah as one of the major milestones we are taking towards our vision to serving the people of Makkah and its visitors to assure we offer them the best possible options for lifestyle enhancement; it will be an icon within our envisioned 1.25 million square meters New Makkah district,” said Yasser AbuAteek, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Umm Al Qura.

“What counted most for us was the expertise of managing hotels and residences from a European perspective integrated with local and cultural refinements and considerations. Kempinski has not only proven on a global scale, but specifically in the Middle East, where the company’s reputation is impeccable. Therefore, we are pleased to take the next step with them and leave a joint footprint as part of our mega project,” Mr AbuAteek went on to say.

Both partners have also announced their commitment to exploring possibilities of environmentally friendly and sustainable construction.

Kempinski’s growing footprint in the Middle East

Kempinski is steadily growing its footprint in the Middle East and has managed to build a strong reputation for luxury and excellence in the region.

Just a few years ago, the company launched the Kempinski Al Othman Hotel Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia, a landmark hotel which was immediately popular with Al Khobar residents and travellers alike.

As of now, Kempinski manages six properties in the Gulf, including the Emerald Palace Kempinski Dubai, one of its most luxurious properties which offers guests an unrivalled regal atmosphere.
