2020 is promising to be a strong year for the hotel industry worldwide and January will set the tone for it.
256 new hotels are slated to open and add 49,210 rooms to the global hotel market this month.

Top growth regions in January 2020
North America is starting 2020 off with a flurry of 94 hotel openings, meaning more than 3 a day. This will add 17,199 rooms to the market there.
Asia Pacific is the second fastest growing market with 69 openings and 15,072 rooms. Europe concludes the top 3 with 47 new hotels and 6,901 rooms.
The hotel market in the Middle East will grow by 24 hotels and 6,402 rooms in January followed by Latin America with 14 projects and Africa with 8.
Top 5 countries in terms of hotel openings
The United States will be by far the busiest hotel market in terms of openings in January. With 74 new hotels and 12,388 additional rooms, the USA are leaps and bounds ahead of runner up China with 18 openings and 4,608 rooms.
Germany comes in third with 16 openings followed by the UK with 13 launches. Indonesia closes out the top 5 with 8 new hotels slated to open in January and add 1,228 rooms to the local market.
Hotel opening hotspots in January 2020
With 5 new properties and 1,572 additional rooms, Dubai will see the most openings in a single city in January. Bali and London are also going strong with 4 openings each and 621 and 574 new rooms respectively.
Doha, Los Angeles and Miami Beach conclude the list of the top cities with three new hotel openings each.
Expanding brands
Marriott International and Hilton Worldwide aren’t wasting any time in 2020. The five fastest-growing brands this month all belong to these two powerhouses.
Hampton by Hilton leads the pack with 13 projects and 1,605 rooms followed by Home2 Suites by Hilton which is planning 8 projects and 923 rooms.
Courtyard by Marriott is celebrating 6 openings while the Autograph Collection will get 5 new properties.
Sheraton Hotels & Resorts and Le Meridien will open 4 hotels each, with Sheraton pushing for significantly larger properties than the artsy Le Meridien brand.
