interihotel, the leading event on design for hotels and restaurants, will hold its MAD24 edition from 19 to 21 November at IFEMA Madrid. This year, the Interiors Living Lab of AMBIT Living Spaces Cluster, the organizing entity, has prepared two new spaces with innovative content for the event: Xperience Lab and Materials Lab.

XPERIENCE LAB

Xperience Lab is the space that allows interihotel visitors to experiment with disruptive digital technologies that can be applied to interior design. The space has been set up with three installations that show the potential of three technologies:

  • The Immersive Cube: immersive and interactive installation that showcases the potential of videomapping technology by projecting images, videos and animations onto three-dimensional surfaces to create visual effects that integrate with the materiality of the space and react in real time to the visitor’s movement. Participants will be guided through a creative journey that reflects some of the main design trends in colours, materials and finishes (CMF) in the hospitality sector for the 2024/2025 season. The experience will be visual, interactive, sensory and gastronomic, allowing visitors to interact with the projections and be part of the narrative.
  • Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) & 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS): these technologies make an innovative use of Artificial Intelligence in architectural visualization processes to generate three-dimensional models of existing spaces or products. Visitors can experience the use of this new technology to immediately scan and visualize through virtual reality some of the unique spaces at the fair, such as the Concept Rooms Lab spaces. This technology aims to set a new standard in the creation and visualization of 3D models for the habitat sector.
  • Generative artificial intelligence: this set-up allows visitors to experiment with the latest Generative Artificial Intelligence tools to change workflows and facilitate innovation in the design of spaces. The visitor has the possibility to easily control the artificial generation of interior design scenes and products by taking inspiration, for example, from different product preferences of interihotel’s exhibiting brands.

MATERIALS LAB

The Materials Lab is an exhibition of innovative materials, carefully selected for their sustainable attributes. The display is housed in a spectacular 3D printed hotel room that possesses the natural properties of catalysis and photocatalysis that contribute to the elimination of greenhouse gases.

The exhibition, curated by the materials consultancy Matter Group, presents the latest trends and innovative solutions in sustainable and healthy materials for hospitality projects. The architecture and interior design studio External Reference has designed the space, while the large-format 3D printing compsany LAMÁQUINA has been in charge of the materialization of the space and the avant-garde design furniture.

Selected materials include mycelium, wood chips with cement, food waste, cotton, rattan, recycled plastic, mineral fibres and cork. In addition, advanced materials such as CNC wood panels, translucent concrete, vegetable leather (pineapple and apple), laminated stone or biobased resin stand out. The selection made by Matter Group responds to the aesthetic, sustainable and functional needs of hotel projects, offering professionals a comprehensive view of the latest trends and solutions in materials.

With an innovative system that combines 3D printed serial elements and wooden connecting elements, the room in which the exhibition is housed integrates technology, design and philosophy in a single installation, posing a reflection on the temporality of design. The user can use their imagination to connect the plan drawn by the architects in 2D with various 3D printed furniture elements, becoming an interactive platform where the user becomes a co-creator.
