Innside Liverpool presses ahead with transformation of Echo building
Meliá Hotels International’s fast-growing Innside brand will open a 207-room hotel within the former headquarters of the Liverpool Echo in August 2021.
A prominent building in Liverpool city centre will soon house the latest outpost of lifestyle hotel brand Innside.
The Liverpool Echo steps aside for Innside
In June 2018, Liverpool City Council approved a full planning application to convert the Echo building at 95 Old Hall Street into a Corstorphine + Wright-designed mixed-use scheme anchored by a 207-room hotel. The Liverpool Echo, which had been based there since 1973, moved across the road to 5 St Paul’s Square a few months earlier, and the property was subsequently sold to Dubai-based investor Select Group by the newspaper’s publisher Reach.
Now, after three years of extensive redevelopment work on the property, Meliá Hotels International has announced that Innside Liverpool will launch on 16 August 2021. The 207-room scheme will feature an open-plan lobby, a 140-capacity destination restaurant, a 24-hour gym with state-of-the-art technology, and a panoramic double-height skybar on the 18th floor offering exceptional views across the city’s Unesco World Heritage-listed waterfront.
Drawing inspiration from the Echo building’s history
No fewer than seven flexible meeting rooms are promised at Innside Liverpool, including the Big Idea Space, The News Room, The Printing Press and The Post Room in reference to the building’s past. And a dedicated events floor will be capable of hosting up to 340 attendees at a time.
The 207-key property will also boast 25 upgraded Studio Rooms, 26 Townhouse Suites and one Condo Suite featuring a separate bedroom, dining area and living space.
Good news after a challenging year for hospitality
“The past 12 months has been exceptionally tough for so many, not least those in the hospitality industry, but we are thrilled to be launching our third UK Innside by Meliá property in the heart of Liverpool this summer,” said Garry Fortune, cluster general manager, UK North at Innside by Meliá.
“As a group, Innside by Meliá has gone from strength to strength following the launch of our Manchester site in 2015 and the brand new Innside Newcastle set to open this spring. With a further two sites in the pipeline, it has been gratifying to see the brand so well-received as we strengthen our roots in prime locations in the North’s most diverse cultural hubs.”
