IHG to open first Kimpton hotel in Hungary
by Lauren Jade Hill | 23 Nov 2021 | Projects

Luxury boutique hotel brand Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants will open its inaugural property in the country at Bem József Square, overlooking the beautiful River Danube.
Hungary’s burgeoning hospitality scene continues to go from strength to strength.
Entry to historic Budapest
IHG has signed a deal to launch Kimpton Budapest under a management agreement with Mam Buda Project, which owns an attractively located property at Bem József Square on the Buda side of the River Danube. Mam Buda Project is a subsidiary of Market Asset Management.
Willemijn Geels, VP development Europe for IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “Budapest is one of Europe’s most popular destinations with beautiful Unesco World Heritage Sites, as well as rapidly growing corporate demand as a local business hub.
“It is an ideal fit for our Kimpton brand, whose heartfelt, personalised service and bold design will resonate well with this vibrant city. We’ve seen just how well our luxury boutique offering has been received in Europe, and this new signing only reinforces momentum for Kimpton’s international expansion.”
Sándor Scheer, chairman of Market Asset Management, added: “We are excited to work with IHG Hotels & Resorts to bring Kimpton to Budapest. We have seen the success of the brand across Europe and are thrilled to be bringing a unique and distinct luxury offering to Budapest, capturing a new corner of the market.”
A new social hub
The hotel will house 127 spacious and thoughtfully designed guestrooms, along with amenities like a destination dining concept and rooftop bar, all bringing Kimpton’s signature playful touch to the location.
The Kimpton brand first made its European debut with the 2017 opening of Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam. There are currently a total of seven Kimpton hotels open across the continent, with four more in the pipeline.
Kimpton Budapest is expected to make its debut in early 2025.
