IHG strikes deal to open first Hotel Indigo in Minneapolis

British hospitality company IHG will roll out its upper-upscale boutique hotel brand to Minnesota’s largest city following the renovation of an existing property.
On opening later this year, the development will provide an exciting lifestyle hub in the heart of downtown Minneapolis.
Hotel Indigo’s entry to Minneapolis
IHG has signed up to deliver a major scheme in Minnesota. Renovations are now set to begin on an existing property ahead of Hotel Indigo Minneapolis Northstar Downtown’s projected opening in autumn 2022.
Julienne Smith, senior vice president of development for IHG in the Americas, said: “We are thrilled to be continuing to grow with Great Lakes Management Group, one of our most strategic hotel owners who has opened several highly desirable IHG branded hotels across the US. With its unique style representative of the local area and neighbourhood dining, this Hotel Indigo will be a great fit for the downtown Minneapolis market.”
Neil Densmore, president of Great Lakes Management Group, added: “We are excited to be partnering with IHG on the first Hotel Indigo in Minneapolis. This hotel will be ideally situated among many major attractions to the area, and guests will be pleased with the changes to the entire development that are underway.”
Transformation of a heritage site
The hotel will rise up to 17 storeys high and comprise 218 guestrooms, a neighbourhood restaurant and bar, a business centre and fitness space. Its downtown location promises to make it an ideal base for business and leisure travellers alike.
The property will reflect the hotel brand’s approach to celebrating the colours, textures and history of its surroundings through everything from dining to design.
This Hotel Indigo property is taking over a location that first hosted the independent Northstar Hotel in 1962. The hotel forms part of the mixed-use Northstar Center, which also encompasses offices, retail units and a 955-space car park.
Northstar Center, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, is now undergoing a transformation involving the modernisation of its office space and the creation of a retail and restaurant public area connected by skyway. On completion, the complex will be home to 220 apartments and around 500,000 sq ft of office space.
