IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a franchise agreement for a new Garner-branded hotel in Ahmedabad, India. The 40-key property, called Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera, is scheduled to open in 2029. It will be developed by Devpriya Buildcon and managed by United Hospitality Management (UHM) India, a company that already handles a number of IHG-branded properties across the country.
The hotel will sit at the Motera-Sabarmati junction in North Ahmedabad, near Narendra Modi Stadium and the Sabarmati Bullet Train hub. It’s also close to several corporate districts, which IHG points to as a draw for business travelers. The property will be part of a larger mixed-use development that includes retail space, banquet facilities, restaurants, and a hospital.
A Growing Brand for a Growing City
Garner is IHG’s newest midscale conversion brand, and the company describes it as its fastest-scaling brand globally. It’s built for the essentials segment, meaning the focus stays on reliable basics: a good location, a comfortable bed, and breakfast. This signing marks the first Garner property announced for Ahmedabad specifically.
Sudeep Jain, Managing Director for Southwest Asia at IHG, said Ahmedabad has been growing as a commercial and infrastructure hub, pointing to the city’s economic activity and expanding connectivity. He added that the Garner brand’s model has appealed to owners in similar high-growth markets. Deepika Arora, Managing Director of UHM India, said the signing builds on the company’s existing partnership with IHG, which continues to expand across India.
Ahmedabad already has a handful of IHG-branded hotels, including:
- Crowne Plaza Ahmedabad City Centre
- Holiday Inn Express Ahmedabad Prahlad Nagar
- Holiday Inn Ahmedabad, which is currently in the pipeline
Part of a Larger India Push
This deal is one piece of a bigger expansion for IHG in India. The company currently operates 53 hotels across 6 brands in the country, including Six Senses, InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, Crowne Plaza, voco Hotels, Holiday Inn Resort, and Holiday Inn Express. IHG says it has 110 more hotels in the pipeline, expected to open over the next 3 to 5 years.
Ahmedabad itself has become a notable market for that growth. The city has a diverse economic base, with activity spanning pharmaceuticals, textiles, information technology, and corporate offices. Continued investment in sports and transportation infrastructure, including the nearby stadium and bullet train hub, has added to demand for hotel development in the area.
Prashant Thakkar, a partner at Devpriya Buildcon, said the project fits into the developer’s broader plans for the area, citing Ahmedabad’s economic growth and rising visitor numbers. The Motera property will operate as a 40-room hotel once it opens, joining a market that continues to see new hotel announcements tied to the city’s expanding infrastructure and business activity.
The hotel is still several years from opening, with a planned doors-open date in 2029. No additional details on pricing, design, or construction timelines were included in the announcement.
