Upscale brand comes to Dubai in Q1 2019 after a landmark deal with with ACICO Gulf Real Estate.
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed a deal with ACICO Gulf Real Estate to open the first of their voco branded properties in Dubai. The management agreement will see the Nassima Royal Hotel become voco Dubai, the first of the brand’s signings in the Middle East since it was launched in July 2018. We find out more.
voco hits Dubai
IHG’s upscale brand voco will be hitting the Middle Eastern state of Dubai after the hotel group signed a management deal with ACICO Gulf Real Estate to rebrand the Nassima Royal Hotel as voco Dubai.
This will be the first voco property in the Middle East, and will form part of IHG’s plan to grow the upscale brand in the coming years.
IHG launched voco in July 2018 in a bid to gain a foothold in the growing sector, which is currently valued at $40 billion, and predicted to grow by a further $20 billion by 2025.
The Nassima Royal Hotel is located on Dubai’s iconic Sheikh Zayed Road, close to the city’s premier entertainment and business districts, and will become the voco Dubai in the first quarter of 2019.
The property will appeal to both business and leisure travelers and boasts 471 guest rooms and suites as well as ample conference and meeting facilities and a dedicated wellness centre and spa.
Ghassan Alkhaled, CEO and Vice Chairman of ACICO Group, said, “We are proud to partner with IHG to open the first voco in the Middle East. Powered by the strength and scale of the IHG system and charm of the newly launched brand, we are confident that voco Dubai will be a great success and a preferred choice for business and leisure travellers looking for an upscale experience.”
Upscale potential in Dubai
IHG launched voco earlier this year and Dubai is a sure bet for a group that wishes to tap into the market potential that the upscale sector offers.
This segment of the hospitality industry is continuing to grow, and Dubai is a destination that still has plenty of scope to make a mark.
Pascal Gauvin, Managing Director, India, Middle East & Africa, IHG, said of the deal, “IHG has identified significant growth opportunities in upscale hospitality and the signing of voco Dubai is a significant step in this direction. In the UAE alone, the unbranded accommodation market makes up 60% of the total hospitality sector.”
“voco combines the best of individual high-quality upscale hotels, with the best of IHG. It’s a brand that forms the heart of a newly built hotel or celebrates what already makes an existing hotel successful,” he added.
Let’s take a look at a few other projects currently underway by Voco:
