IHG Hotels & Resorts introduces the first branded luxury hotel in South Australia’s wine region

IHG Hotels & Resorts and Strategic Alliance have partnered up to open InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa. This will be the first globally branded luxury hotel in South Australia’s well-known Barossa Valley wine region. This move will see world-class luxury sharing space with one of Australia’s most iconic wine destinations.

Contingent on receiving planning approval (hopefully soon, as I’m sure we’ve all started daydreaming about the luxury and fine wine experience), the resort is scheduled to open in 2028. It will feature 150 guest rooms, all of which provide stunning views of the Barossa Valley’s rolling hills, and some of which offer a balcony that overlooks the local vineyards.

Matt Tripolone, IHG Hotels & Resorts Managing Director, Australasia & Pacific, says, “We are exceptionally excited to bring our iconic InterContinental brand to the Barossa, and would like to thank the Strategic Alliance team for partnering with us to invest in the future of South Australian tourism. For the first time, the Barossa will boast a globally branded luxury hotel that will serve as an indelible beacon for guests seeking an unparalleled level of luxury and sophistication. Underpinned by stunning architecture and complemented by one of the world’s most recognized brands, InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa will be the perfect destination for wine lovers, gastronomes, and luxury escapists.”

Fine dining and top-of-the-line amenities

InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa plans to offer a signature restaurant that seats up to 130 guests. The restaurant will showcase Australia’s finest flavors and culinary experiences with a contemporary edge—and I think it’s safe to say, offer some of the region’s superb wine. Its lounge bar, outdoor garden terrace, and exclusive Club InterContinental will further provide a place to relax and unwind.

The resort will also feature a luxury pool, comprehensive day spa, and well-equipped fitness center. Extensive conference and meeting spaces will be available for any business and event needs. And for the guests looking to stay active during their stay, scenic walking trails and outdoor activities in the surrounding Barossa Valley can be found just outside the doors. InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa is certainly positioning itself as the ideal destination for corporate retreats, romantic escapes, wellness and adventure seekers, special events, and group getaways.

IHG’s regional growth

The opening of this resort will be a great new addition to IHG’s Luxury and Lifestyle (L&L) portfolio. In the Australasia Pacific region, IHG currently operates 22 open hotels and has 9 more in its pipeline. Clearly evident is IHG’s growing focus on expanding its luxury offerings in this rapidly developing market. Could the InterContinental Barossa be the next landmark in IHG’s regional growth? (The answer is yes, absolutely!)
