Mexico’s first two voco hotels will open in Guadalajara and Saltillo (Imagery IHG)
IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of Mexico’s first two voco hotels in Guadalajara and Saltillo.
These signings extend the global reach of a brand portfolio already present in major cities across the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.
Entry to Mexico
Each of these new additions to the voco portfolio will reflect the brand’s approach to offering an upscale hospitality experience integrating informality and charm. The hotels are joining a portfolio of 31 operating properties, with an additional 43 hotels in the pipeline.
Commenting on the signings, German Ongay, regional vice president development – Mexico, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “voco hotels maintain the local character and history of an independent hotel, paired with the quality and reassurance of a respected global brand.”
“Guadalajara and Saltillo are the ideal locations to introduce our newest and fastest-growing premium brand to Mexico, and we are thrilled to partner with Vertex Ophthalmic Group and American Hotels Group to make these two properties a reality.”
A prime location in Guadalajara
Owned by Vertex Ophthalmic Group, the voco hotel Guadalajara Neruda is scheduled to open in late 2022. The hotel will take up five floors of the 11-storey Neruda 2828 mixed-use development in the city’s financial district.
The 104-key property will cater for both business and leisure travellers in space comprising a neighbourhood restaurant and bar, a rooftop terrace, fitness centre and business centre.
Jorge Celis, COO, Vertex Ophthalmic Group, commented: “The new voco hotel is an ideal fit for the Guadalajara Neruda complex, which will bring a modern vibe and a host of professional, commercial and leisure visitors to the area.”
“We are honoured to open Mexico’s first voco hotel in Guadalajara and offer our guests a high-quality, special and memorable experience.”
Saltillo conversion plans
The owner and developer American Hotels Group is then leading the conversion of a property originally built as an independent hotel into voco hotel Saltillo.
This site will place guests adjacent to the American Sports Center recreation complex, among Saltillo’s automotive and manufacturing districts.
The property’s 125 guest rooms will be joined by a restaurant and bar, fitness centre, indoor pool and 700 sq ft of meeting space.
Juan Carlos Saade, general director, American Hotels Group, said: “Whether visiting for business or recreation, guests of voco Saltillo will enjoy a unique blend of the familiar feels of home and the curiosity and potential for discovery of the area. We look forward to working with the IHG team to open and grow this hotel.
