IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed its first management agreement with Samty Corporation to open the new voco Hiroshima, with an expected 2027 debut.

The forthcoming voco Hiroshima is the second voco hotel to come to Japan as it joins the 2023-opened voco Osaka. The brand now has 62 hotels in operation, with another 74 in the pipeline.

A prime setting

On opening in 2027, the new-build voco Hiroshima will place guests within the urban development neighbouring Hiroshima Station.

Commenting on the plans, Takahiro Yamamoto, Director of Development, IHG Hotels & Resorts Japan, said: “IHG Hotels & Resorts Japan is pleased to announce the opening of the new IHG Hotel in Hiroshima. We are honoured to partner with Samty, one of Japan’s leading integrated real estate companies.”

“We are grateful to Mr. Yasunobu Ogawa, President and CEO of Samty, and we hope that the construction of voco Hiroshima will contribute to the further development of the local tourism industry by promoting voco’s unique global brand power and the wonderful attractions of Hiroshima, together with Samty’s business goal of ‘making everyone’s dreams come true’. We look forward to building a long-term partnership between Samty and IHG in the years to come.”

The hotel development was approved by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as a Private Sector Guided Facilities Development Project.

Embracing its location

Drawing on its location, the hotel will reflect the history of the area, with plans including a space referencing the famous Edo Period highway, Saigoku Kaido, that this hotel stands on.

In addition to its 301 guest rooms and signature communal areas, the site will encompass an outdoor café space, a meeting area for local residents, a lively space where people can wait for a bus, and a temporary evacuation site, under the ministerial approval for the Private Guidance Facilities Development Project.

The hotel will reflect the brand’s name, which means to ‘invite’ or ‘gather’ in Latin, with signature touches including a welcome treatment. Guests can expect a relaxed room experience along with the social interaction of its communal areas.

By staying at the property, guests will have easy access to attractions such as the Atomic Bomb Dome, a World Heritage Site, and the downtown area of Hiroshima City. Guests can discover Hiroshima’s natural beauty and uncover the city’s rich culinary heritage.
