IHG announces plans for InterContinental Parramatta
by Lauren Jade Hill | 17 May 2021 | Hotel Projects, Projects

InterContinental Parramatta, a 200-key newbuild in one of Sydney’s fastest growing areas, will become the 11th InterContinental property in Australasia.
Created in partnership with owner Holdmark Property Group, this InterContinental property is scheduled to make its debut in 2025.
An exciting development
The newbuild InterContinental Parramatta will form part of a major mixed-use development alongside offices and ground-floor retail. This building promises to be one of the city’s most exciting high-rises, with the owners currently running an architectural competition to choose its design.
It’s envisaged that the hotel will channel the brand’s signature InterContinental Life concept, combining glamour and the excitement of a destination with international know-how and knowledge of the culture.
“Parramatta is without doubt a super city of the future,” said Abhijay Sandilya, IHG’s vice president of development in Japan, Australasia and Pacific. “To embark on this newbuild project with new partners Holdmark Property Group, and introduce our luxury InterContinental Hotels & Resorts brand to the heart of western Sydney, is incredibly exciting. The transformation of Parramatta over the years has been extraordinary and the city is truly deserving of a luxury hotel; it has been crying out for one for a long time.”
What guests can expect at InterContinental Parramatta
Altogether, InterContinental Parramatta will house 200 guestrooms, along with a restaurant and rooftop bar, the Club Lounge, wellness facilities including a pool and gym, and more than 900 sq m of event space. The property will be built to the highest green-rating standard.
Parramatta is considered the main commercial centre for the Greater Western Sydney region and is also home to the city’s newest CBD. Located at the junction of Church and Macquarie Street, this new hotel should provide the ideal base for luxury travellers.
“We are firm believers in the development of Parramatta as Sydney’s newest CBD, and we are thrilled to be working with the team at IHG Hotels & Resorts to bring an InterContinental hotel to the heart of Parramatta,” said Kevin Nassif from Holdmark Property Group. “The hotel will be located directly opposite Parramatta Square, one of the largest urban renewal projects in Australia, and is perfectly positioned to cater those in town for business or leisure.
“This hotel will deliver more than 360 direct and 1,000 indirect jobs for western Sydney and play a critical role in the post-Covid growth and revitalisation of Sydney’s west. Furthermore, the development will create an additional 1,000 construction and sub-contractor roles, boosting job opportunities and the local western Sydney economy.”
The news follows on from the recent announcement that InterContinental Sorrento will open later this year on the Mornington Peninsula near Melbourne. IHG currently has 60 hotels operating under six brands in Australasia.
