IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed deals for two more hotels in New South Wales with developer Urban Property Group. The new properties are Crowne Plaza Newcastle and Hotel Indigo Gosford. They bring the number of IHG-Urban hotels in the state to three, following Crowne Plaza Parramatta, which was signed in 2025. Both new hotels will be located inside larger mixed-use developments, one in Newcastle and one in Gosford.
IHG Managing Director for Australasia and Pacific Matt Tripolone said the company has signed three projects with Urban in the past 12 months. He said regional growth is a priority for IHG in Australia, especially in markets that benefit from steady investment in infrastructure, tourism, and development. Patrick Elias, Co-CEO of Urban, said hospitality fits naturally alongside the company’s residential, retail, and commercial work. He said placing recognized hotel brands in Urban’s large precincts helps create places where people can live, work, and stay.
Crowne Plaza Newcastle
Crowne Plaza Newcastle is expected to open in late 2029 next to Newcastle Interchange. It will occupy part of a 43-storey development that also includes 219 residential apartments. The hotel will have 171 rooms, all-day dining, a lobby bar, and a pool, along with landscaped public spaces. Its meetings and events space will total more than 550 square meters, including a 425-square-meter ballroom.
The hotel marks a return for the Crowne Plaza brand to Newcastle. IHG said the city is going through a major transformation, backed by infrastructure investment and population growth. Its business, events, and visitor economy are also expanding. The company expects the new hotel to add premium rooms and meeting capacity as demand grows across the wider Hunter region.
Hotel Indigo Gosford
Hotel Indigo Gosford is expected to open in mid-2030 as part of Urban’s The Waterfront precinct. It will have 152 rooms with views across Brisbane Water. The hotel’s features are:
- A neighborhood café and bar
- A rooftop pool
- Premium wellness facilities
Its design and guest experience will draw on the stories and character of the local area, which is how the Hotel Indigo brand approaches its properties. This will be the first Hotel Indigo on the Central Coast. IHG described the Central Coast as one of the state’s major regional visitor destinations, with continued investment in Gosford’s central business district and waterfront. The company said the hotel will add an internationally branded lifestyle option and support the region’s growing overnight visitor economy.
