Hyatt Hotels Corporation is continuing to grow the footprint of its upscale lifestyle brand Alila in the Americas with a new resort situated along San Diego’s northern coast. We find out more about this eco-focused 130-key hotel.

Alila’s debut newbuild resort in the Americas

The ambitious coastal property, developed by JMI Realty and Fenway Capital Advisors for Hyatt in southern California, will start welcoming guests through its doors at the beginning of 2021. Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas represents a bold move for the Chicago-headquartered hospitality company, which will doubtless help boost the profile of its upscale brand across the US.

Susan Santiago, global head of lifestyle and Miraval operations at Hyatt, said: “We are thrilled to announce the development of the first newbuild Alila resort in the Americas, marking a significant milestone for Hyatt.

“California’s legendary coastline has long captured the hearts of our guests, World of Hyatt members and customers, and we’re excited to continue to expand in California with this landmark oceanfront project. The Alila brand has long been a leader in crafted luxury and responsible tourism, and Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas will embody that same ethos when it debuts in Southern California.”

A slice of nature

The new San Diego resort will channel all of the natural wonders of the rugged California coastline. Overseen by architect Joseph Wong Design Associates and interior designer Mark Zeff Associates, the property will boast 130 guest rooms, including 16 well-appointed suites. The concept behind the scheme involves capitalising fully on its enviable setting, with panoramic views overlooking the Pacific Ocean and surrounding lagoons, an architectural design that marries seamlessly with the naturally occurring local bluffs and ridges, and a rooftop pool and bar and infinity hot tub.

John Kratzer, chief executive officer of JMI Realty, said: “We are honoured to work with the Alila brand and Hyatt Lifestyle team to bring this oceanfront luxury resort to Encinitas in early 2021. Our goal is to provide a destination that locals and travellers will treasure, and we’re confident the Encinitas community will be proud to share their unique energy and beautiful shoreline with the new resort.”

What’s on offer at the new Alila San Diego

The property will offer guests all of Alila’s signature style and service, with a particular focus on sustainability and environmental consciousness.

Visitors will be able to partake in a variety of watersports during their stay, including surfing and paddleboarding, explore the mountains and hills around the resorts on hikes or cycling trips, or relax with a beachside yoga class. In addition, Alila’s latest resort will offer electric car charging facilities, a bike valet service and direct access to one of California’s world-famous beaches.

Alila takes its name from the Sanskrit for ‘surprise’, creating breath-taking, eco-friendly and ‘surprisingly different’ destinations that integrate the natural, physical and cultural elements of their environments.
