Las Vegas’ iconic Rio Hotel & Casino has officially joined the Destination by Hyatt brand, following the completion of the first phase of its $340 million property-wide transformation.

A Sin City icon

The hotel is owned and managed by Dreamscape Companies, and first opened in 1990. Dreamscape took over the hotel’s management in October 2023, following its purchase of the property in 2019. Rio Hotel & Casino features a Rio Carnival theme throughout the property.

The hotel’s two-phase renovation began in August 2023. This phase included a full redesign and modernisation of the all-suite resort’s 1500-room Ipanema Tower, as well as six new food and beverage destinations within the new Canteen Food Hall.

Other highlights from the first phase of the renovation include 220,000 square feet of newly renovated meetings and convention space, a revamped pool area with four pools, and over 500 new slot machines and 30 table games on the casino’s floor.

Phase two of the resort’s renovation will completely redesign and modernise the Masquerade Tower guestrooms and public spaces, ensuring an elevated and cohesive guest experience across the entire property.

Hyatt expands Destination portfolio

Following its acquisition by Hyatt, Rio Hotel & Casino has become the largest property within Hyatt’s portfolio based on room count. It is also the first Destination by Hyatt hotel in Nevada.

The 2500-key Rio Hotel & Casino is located one block off the Las Vegas Strip, on the Flamingo Road.

Mike Waddell, Hyatt’s SVP of Global Franchise Operations, said the group was “proud to welcome” the new Rio Hotel & Casino to their Destination by Hyatt brand portfolio.

“Rio is an icon reborn, and its legacy and unique character live on. We are excited for our members and guests to discover the experiences that make Rio Las Vegas a standout destination for global travellers,” he added.

Destination by Hyatt is one of Hyatt’s soft brands, a diverse collection of independent properties which all benefit from Hyatt’s in-depth management and marketing programs, as well as the World of Hyatt reward program. The properties in the Destination by Hyatt portfolio range from upper-upscale to luxury and are located in prime spots around the world.
