Hyatt already has a significant presence of 50 hotels in India, but with a strong and growing pipeline, aims to double that number within six years

Hyatt Hotels has revealed plans to double its presence in India within the next six years, from its current 50 hotels across the country.

The move will include an expansion of the group’s brand portfolio in India, introducing the group into new market segments. Currently the portfolio in the region includes 50 hotels in India, and two in Nepal, across nine of the Hyatt brands, totalling just over 10,000 rooms.

Enthusiasm for India

Sunjae Sharma, Managing Director, India & Southwest Asia at Hyatt recently told local media: “We are enthusiastic about our expansion plans in India. With our strong pipeline and strategic growth initiatives, we are confident that we will achieve the milestone of 100 hotels within the next 5-6 years.”

Hyatt’s current scale in India puts it in the third place of the group’s significant regional markets, behind the Americas and China. Sharma said expansion will see the growth of legacy brands including Hyatt Regency and Hyatt Place, while there will also be new brands arriving.

An indication of the commitment to the Indian market is the launch of a “showroom” for the Hyatt brands, installed within the Grand Hyatt hotel in Mumbai. Here, investors and operators can understand more fundamentally the opportunity of partnering with Hyatt and its brands.

Growth will be focused on a strategy focused around loyalty, luxury, leisure, lifestyle and wellness, said Sharma. The aim is to meet the needs of both domestic and international travellers, as the country grows its economy and its tourism sector.

The group’s India pipeline is growing, and already includes projects such as Hyatt Regency hotels scheduled to open in Kasauli and Ghaziabad. A Hyatt Regency will open in Kasauli in the coming months, too, while there are also projects in development for the brand in Nashik and Puri.

There will also be new Hyatt Place properties coming in Aurangabad and Haridwar, while the brand is also growing into nearby Bangladesh with a project in planning for Hyatt Place Dhaka Uttara.

Building with the brands

The Hyatt Centric brand is also growing in India, with three live projects in development. There are plans for a 150 room Hyatt Centric at Bengaluru airport. Also in the works are Hyatt Centrics in Vrindavan and Indore. In 2025, the group also expects to launch its Unbound Collection in the country, opening in Bhopal.

Hyatt’s expansion in India is supported by Juniper Hotels, a business in which the American group holds a stake. The group listed on the Indian stock market in early 2024, aiming to support further growth. It manages seven Hyatt hotels in India currently, including the Grand Hyatt Mumbai and Andaz Delhi, Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad and Hyatt Raipur.

In Nepal, the group announced its fourth hotel project in November 2024. The 175 room Hyatt Regency Lumbini will be delivered in partnership with the Golyan Group, and is expected to open in 2028.
