Hyatt adds 15 beachfront resorts with its Playa acquisition, strengthening its hold on the all-inclusive market

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced the completed acquisition of Playa Hotels & Resorts N.V., a leading owner, operator, and developer of all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica.

Hyatt has acquired 15 all-inclusive resorts formerly owned and operated by Playa. Eight of these resorts were already part of Hyatt’s system under the Hyatt Ziva and Zilara brands. The deal adds several new beachfront properties to Hyatt’s portfolio, including Secrets La Romana and Dreams La Romana (Dominican Republic), Dreams Rose Hall (Jamaica), and Hyatt Vivid Playa del Carmen and Sunscape Cancun (Mexico).

“As we welcome Playa into the Hyatt family, we are strengthening our leadership in the all-inclusive space through a combination of new locations, capabilities, and talent,” said Mark Hoplamazian, President and Chief Executive Officer, Hyatt. “Playa’s all-inclusive management platform complements Hyatt’s global scale and brand strength, enabling us to deliver compelling experiences for guests and members while driving strong performance for owners.”

A decade of expansion

Hyatt’s expansion into the all-inclusive market began in 2013 through a partnership with Playa, launching the Hyatt Ziva and Zilara brands. Growth accelerated with the 2021 acquisition of Apple Leisure Group and continued in 2024 with a joint venture with Grupo Piñero for Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts. The recent acquisition of Playa further solidifies Hyatt’s leadership in the all-inclusive space.

Additional financial details will be shared during Hyatt’s Q2 2025 earnings call.

Headquartered in Chicago, Hyatt operates over 1,450 hotels and all-inclusive properties across 79 countries and six continents as of March 31, 2025.
