Hunton Acquires Nottingham Belfry

Following a period of closure, and a liquidation sale, the Nottingham Belfry hotel is now in new hands

Family owned Hunton Hotels has acquired the Nottingham Belfry out of receivership, and is now planning a happier future for the 120 room property.

The hotel was placed into administration, and then into liquidation by the previous ownership, closing in early 2026. Subsequently, the property was put up for sale by the liquidators, with agent Savills seeking offers around a GBP3.75 million asking price. The hotel, located on a business park outside central Nottingham, has rooms spread over four floors, a major spa and leisure centre, and meeting spaces able to accommodate conferences with up to around 700 delegates.

A Highly Desirable Asset

Tom Cunningham is regional director of hotel capital markets at Savills, and sieved through the offers received for the property: “The sale attracted significant interest from the market, generating multiple competitive bids and demonstrating the continued strength of investor demand for hotel assets in the regions.”

The hotel, which previously traded under Marriott’s Delta Hotels brand, closed in February 2026 with all staff made redundant. Prior to this date, the property’s owners had been seeking a sale of the hotel as a going concern, having appointed administrators in January the same year. The legal status of the property and terms of the disposal mean the new owners have an opportunity to choose a new brand for the hotel, once they have completed planned refurbishment.

The hotel started the decade in the hands of Aprirose, which acquired a portfolio of hotels under the QHotels brand. The Nottingham property then underwent a GBP1.5 million refurbishment, before being relaunched as a Delta Hotels by Marriott property, the third UK site for the brand.

At the time, Aprirose was working closely with Marriott on its conversion-friendly brand, launching Delta hotels in Cheltenham, Ashford, Warrington and Telford. Despite the closure in Nottingham, other hotels have thrived under the Delta name, and today there are 22 Delta branded hotels across the UK.

Hunton, the new owner of the Nottingham Belfry, is a relatively new business in the UK hotel sector, having been founded in 2020. Currently, it operates the Holiday Inn Nottingham, and Holiday Inn Express Southampton M27, with the Nottingham Belfry its third acquisition. With Hunton’s existing relationship with IHG via its other two hotels, the likelihood of the Belfry being rebranded under an IHG flag is clearly a strong possibility.

Delta Is Now a Global Brand

Marriott has now launched the Delta brand around the world as a conversion-friendly option for owners. In Europe, it has three pipeline properties, starting with the Delta Hotel Leverkusen in Germany. This 193 room property is having a refit ahead of a relaunch in spring 2027. It will be followed by a 270 room conversion on the Italian coast at Campania. Again, a refurbishment will precede the opening.

In 2028, the brand will add the former RG Naxos Hotel in Giardini Naxos on the Italian island of Sicily. The 296 room beachside property will undergo a refurbishment ahead of the conversion.
