Hotel JAL City Fukuoka Tenjin is set to launch in one of Japan’s largest and busiest cities

Okura Nikko Hotel Management Co, a subsidiary of Hotel Okura Co, has announced plans to open Hotel JAL City Fukuoka Tenjin in 2021.

The forthcoming property will provide a smart new place to stay within one of Japan’s largest and busiest cities, Fukuoka, on the island of Kyushu. We take a look at the project, which is slated for completion in January 2021.

Smart simplicity

Of Okura Nikko Hotel Management Co’s three hotel groups – Okura Hotels & Resorts, Nikko Hotels International and Hotel JAL City – the latter is known for its focus on ‘smart simplicity’. When Hotel JAL City Fukuoka Tenjin opens to the public, it will reflect this overall brand concept by offering a smart and simple guest experience. Guests can expect check-in, check-out and room key functionality through their smartphone, along with a range of tailored guest services and all-day dining facilities.

The renowned Japanese construction company Sekisui House is currently in the process of building this 280-key, 12-floor hotel, in which each guest room will range from 25 sq m in size. Fukuoka Tenjin Hotel Management GK is then set to manage the property.

A strategic gateway

The hotel will deliver an appealing new place to stay in Fukuoka which, as well as being one of the country’s largest and busiest cities, is located at a strategic point between Japan and the rest of Asia. This coastal city on the southwesternmost of Japan’s main islands is almost the same distance from Shanghai, Taipei and Seoul as it is from major Japanese cities such as Tokyo, Osaka and Sapporo.

“We are very pleased to be opening the third property of Okura Nikko Hotels in Fukuoka, a vibrant city that has become a gateway between Japan and Asia,” said Toshihiro Ogita, president of Okura Nikko Hotel Management Co. “We are confident that with our three hotel groups – Okura Hotels & Resorts, Nikko Hotels International and Hotel JAL City – we will be able to match all guests’ requirements in Fukuoka.”

Owing to its proximity to other Asian cities, Fukuoka has seen rapid development as it bids to establish itself as a major commercial hub in North Asia. The new hotel will lie adjacent to the city’s lively Tenjin area, which is a part of Fukuoka’s Tenjin Big Bang urban redevelopment project and easily accessible from Fukuoka airport as well as Hakata shinkansen station.

Through the creation of new commercial facilities, which are expected to reach completion by 2024, the Tenjin Big Bang project hopes to enhance Fukuoka’s appeal to both business travellers and tourists.
