Waterfront resort
Opening in autumn 2025, RISONARE Shimonoseki in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, is the brand’s first foray into the Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu regions.
Located in the Kanmon Strait, the 187-bedroom RISONARE Shimonoseki will sit along the coastline on a waterfront location.
Every guestroom will benefit from an ocean view, with surrounding gardens and an infinity pool.
The property forms part of a joint agreement on community revitalisation between Hoshino Resorts and Shimonoseki City, called the “Arukaport Karato Master Plan” which aims to enhance the overall appeal of the region for visitors.
The development concept is to create a port city, Takaport, based around the Kanmon Strait – which is the largest tourist attraction – with a variety of local events and activities.
The resort also aims to provide a place from which visitors can fully enjoy the scenery and culture of the port towns of Shimonoseki and Kanmon, such as fishing and cruising experiences.
Hot spring origins
The origins of the Hoshino hospitality brand started with the opening of the first hot spring resort, Karuizawa, in 1914.
The company was rebranded as Hoshino Resorts by current CEO Yoshiharu Hoshino in 1995, and now includes five hospitality brands under its parent company – HOSHINOYA (Hoshino Resorts’ flagship luxury brand), KAI (hot spring ryokan/inns with a focus on food), RISONARE (countryside resort hotels), OMO (urban-based mid-range hotels), and BEB (free-spirited hotels) together with other unique lodgings.
Hoshino Resorts operates more than 60 properties in Japan, Bali and Taiwan.
