Hilton has released its annual trend report, which takes a deep dive into the trends the hotel giant has forecasted for 2025.
Report findings were uncovered after extensive global research, involving 13,000 travellers across 13 countries, feedback from over 4,100 Hilton team members and in-depth interviews with dozens of Hilton travel experts.
Active travel
The report revealed active travel is on the rise, with 7 in 10 global travellers choosing to be active when they travel and 1 in 5 leisure travellers planning outdoor adventures in 2025.
On the flip side, 1 in 5 global travellers indicated they indulge in “Hurkle-Durkling”, the Scottish phrase for “lounging in bed all day” while on vacation.
Techy travel
Technology is becoming an ever-increasingly important aspect of the travel experience. Hilton’s survey found that 63% of travellers prefer having the option of a digital room key, allowing them to go straight to their room without stopping at the front desk.
However, despite the clear preference among travellers for technology-enabled convenience, there is still a desire to disconnect from aspects of technology. The Hilton report revealed that 24% of global travellers disconnect from social media more than usual while on vacation.
Pet-friendly preferences
Pets have a larger role in our vacations than ever before, with many hotels increasingly catering to travellers’ fluffy friends.
Hilton’s trend report found that solo travellers are the most likely cohort to travel for leisure with their pets. Around 25% of solo travellers take their pet along with them, which beats out the average leisure traveller at 19%.
