Hilton is forging ahead with its ambitious development strategy, with more than 60 hotel openings planned for Europe this year.

France will see a particular surge in Hilton hotel openings with 20 new properties planned for the coming years, building on recent openings in Paris, Lyon, Tours and Le Havre.

Growth across Europe

As travel restrictions continue to ease, Hilton is planning to open several new hotels in France that will meet the anticipated increase in demand for Hilton properties across the country. The focus for these new properties will fall on major resort destinations and provincial towns and cities.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, EMEA, Hilton, said: “In the last 12 months, despite challenging market conditions, Hilton opened six hotels in France, ranging from exciting brand entries like Canopy by Hilton Paris Trocadero to openings in new regional markets, such as Hilton Garden Inn Tours Centre and Hampton by Hilton Tours Centre.”

“As the travel market continues to recover, we are planning to accelerate that growth with a development strategy that will see our portfolio more than double in the next few years. While France is already one of Hilton’s strongest European markets, this strategy will further expand our French portfolio across a variety of brands.”

“Across Europe, as we expand, we plan to open more than 60 hotels by the end of the year, while longer-term development will see 237 hotels added to our European portfolio,” he continued. “We are confident in the travel market’s recovery following a tumultuous two years and are well poised to take advantage of the growing confidence in travel by expanding our footprint with a diverse range of properties.”

Even throughout the pandemic, Hilton’s European portfolio has grown from 450 hotels at the beginning of 2020 to 500 hotels at the end of 2021. The lifestyle and collection brands have nearly doubled their presence across Europe over the past three years.

New business and leisure stays

Of Hilton’s 19 trading properties in France, recent additions include Canopy by Hilton Paris Trocadero, which opened May 2021, and Hotel Camille Paris Gare de Lyon, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, which opened in September 2021.

Forthcoming properties now include Le Belgrand Hotel Paris Champs Elysees, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, which is expected to debut in the coming months, along with hotels in Dijon and Hyères. Both Tapestry Collection by Hilton and Curio Collection by Hilton brands focus on unique hotels with individual identities.

As well as introducing these newer Hilton brands to European destinations, the group is planning to open almost 130 new Hampton by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn hotels. Almost half of the planned hotels in France are under these brands.

Catering for business travellers, several of the group’s openings, such as Hilton Rome Eur La Lama, are also located near business hubs. Proving its confidence in the recovery of corporate travel, the group is bringing in new features including carbon-neutral business meetings and EventReady Hybrid Solutions.

Some of Hilton’s most highly anticipated upcoming openings across Europe include Hilton Paris Eiffel Tower; Le Hameau des Pesquiers Ecolodge, Curio Collection by Hilton, in Hyères; Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia; and Hilton Mallorca Galatzo.
