Hilton lauded for pledge to achieving gender equality

Hilton Worldwide has received an accolade from one of Australia’s leading agencies for the promotion of gender equality, the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA).

The WGEA praised Hilton for its continued actions towards levelling the playing field in the workplace and awarded it the 2018-2019 Employer of Choice for Gender Equality.

One of the reasons Hilton was recognised in this area was for the introduction of the Women in Leadership program in 2015, which aimed to balance gender quotas in higher level positions and create more appropriate career routes to allow women to flourish at senior levels.

Heidi Kunkel,  Vice President of Operations, Australasia, Hilton, said, “We are honoured to be the only hospitality company in Australia to receive this wonderful recognition and as a WGEA Equal Pay Ambassador, I am personally committed to ensuring Hilton continues to embrace gender equality.”

Hilton to sponsor Ladder Up female leadership campaign

Hilton has pledged the first $100,000 to the new Ladder Up campaign, which is intended to promote the position of women in leadership roles within the hospitality industry.

Hilton will act as the primary sponsor of the campaign, which is organised by the Castell Project.

The international hotel chain has been voted the top workplace in the US and has proven its commitment to gender equality and employee satisfaction through initiatives such as Thrive@Hilton, so its partnership with Castell for Ladder Up should come as no surprise.

Ladder Up hopes to raise $1m to fund research into and create awareness around gender equality in the hospitality industry, as well as allocating money towards women in leadership programs.

Peggy Berg, president, Castell Project, Inc. says, “The Castell Project is taking active steps towards seeing women hold a minimum of one in three leadership positions, including ownership, at all levels of the hospitality industry. These funds will be used to help women climb the corporate ladder as we reach for this goal.”

Hilton significantly expands presence in Asia Pacific

The next five years are set to be busy ones for Hilton in the Asia Pacific, as the hotel giant plans to expand its portfolio in the region by a large margin.

Hilton plans to double its presence in the Asia Pacific market by adding a further 23 hotels to their existing total of 27, bringing the total number of hotels to 50.

Properties in Perth, Melbourne, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Sydney, among others, will all form part of Hilton’s expanded Asia Pacific portfolio.

Heidi Kunkel, Hilton Vice President of Operations, Australasia, said, “We’re very confident, and it’s just a question of introducing the right brands in the right locations at the right time to deliver a return to our investors and shareholders and a great experience to our customers.”

Two brands Hilton is banking on for success are DoubleTree and Conrad.
