The first DoubleTree-branded resort in New Caledonia stands out thanks to its inviting overwater bungalows and stunning lagoon setting.

Following renovation work, DoubleTree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort has now opened its doors in New Caledonia. We take a closer look at this distinctive island property.

Upping the ante in New Caledonia

DoubleTree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort offers 64 bungalows in the heart of a 200-hectare marine reserve, just a short boat ride from Nouméa, New Caledonia’s capital. This opening marks the DoubleTree by Hilton brand’s first foray into the New Caledonian market.

Hilton Worldwide will operate the property under a franchise agreement with owner GLP Hotels New Caledonia.

“Opening the breathtaking DoubleTree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort is an exciting day for Hilton’s growth in the South Pacific,” said Heidi Kunkel, vice president, operations, Australasia, Hilton. “The resort joins Hilton Noumea La Promenade Residences, Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and Spa, DoubleTree by Hilton Fiji – Sonaisali Island and Hilton Port Moresby to mark our fifth hotel in the region.”

Armelle Tahi, CEO, GLP Hotel Group New Caledonia, said: “We are delighted to add a second Hilton brand, and the first DoubleTree by Hilton in New Caledonia, to our portfolio of three hotels, providing us with increased visibility, greater opportunities for dual packages and at the same time, the possibility to generate awareness of the destination.”

Impressive amenities in the South Pacific

Guests can reach DoubleTree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort via a 30-minute boat ride from the city of Nouméa. The property boasts 37 garden or beach bungalows, two beach villas and 25 overwater bungalows; the latter are the only ones of their kind in New Caledonia, and have been built directly over the lagoon, facing west for spectacular sunset views.

The F&B offering serves up local specialities such as freshly caught seafood and French favourites across a restaurant, beach café and bar. A 24-hour gym, water activity centre, massage centre and outdoor pool complete the leisure amenities.

“We are thrilled to launch our first DoubleTree by Hilton in New Caledonia,” said Alexandra Jaritz, senior vice president, brand management, Asia Pacific, Hilton. “From the signature, warm DoubleTree chocolate chip cookie welcome and serving the local community to innovating for the future through contemporary accommodations and amenities, the dedicated resort team is ready to give each and every guest the absolute best experience.”
