Hilton has opened its first Hilton Garden Inn in China under a new format, especially tailored to meet local guest needs.
The update of the select service brand, named Gen A, was developed specifically to meet Chinese tastes, with an updated design and value enhancements. One of the first properties to launch under the updated format is Hilton Garden Inn Chongqing Yubei Central Park. Its interiors evoke the feel of a city garden, with nature-inspired designs.
Setting new standards for guests
“By creating spaces that reflect their values, style, and desire for comfort, balance, and connection, Gen A sets a new standard for guest experience in the upscale focused-service segment, while delivering sustainable value to our owners and investors,” said Jenny Milos, who heads brand management in the segment across Asia Pacific. “This milestone represents a bold step forward in the brand’s journey in China.”
The Chongqing hotel has 276 rooms, rooms and suites. These feature an updated design with a four-in-one multifunctional layout, to improve the flexibility in use for guests.
The new look has also been introduced with Hilton Garden Inn Sanya Haitang Bay and Hilton Garden Inn Harbin Haxi, two popular tourist destinations. Hilton is also keeping up the development pace, and at the 2025 Hilton Garden Inn Investment Summit announced no less than 19 new signings. These include new Garden Inn hotels in Xining, Weihai, Changbai Mountain, and Yiwu.
The brand’s growth track in China is clear. As of June 2025, Hilton has 115 Garden Inn hotels operating across China, with a further 185 signed into the development pipeline.
Hilton has worked with trusted local partners over many years, to help develop its brands in China. It agreed a strategic partnership in 2018 with Country Garden Hotels Group, to help drive growth for the DoubleTree by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn brands.
While China is the leading growth market in the Asia Pacific region, Hilton is also expanding the Garden Inn brand elsewhere. In Vietnam, it recently signed Hilton Garden Inn Hoi’An Tra Que Village, a 250 room hotel coming to Hoi An.
Expanding across Asia Pacific
Another addition in early 2025 was the signing of Hilton Garden Inn Kota Kinabalu Tuaran, in the popular Malaysian tourist destination of Sabah. It will have 160 rooms, plus amenities including an all day restaurant, fitness centre and pool. And in Bali, the group signed its fifth property as the Hilton Garden Inn Bali Nusa Dua. Located close to a major convention centre, it will have 159 rooms, plus its own 220 square metre event space.
As well as growing its select service offering across Asia Pacific, Hilton is also committed to building more luxury hotels. During the next two years, it will open seven hotels featuring its Waldorf Astoria brand, with launches in Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur, Osaka, Shanghai, Sydney, Tokyo and Xi’an.
