Virginia-headquartered hospitality company Hilton Worldwide has reached a major milestone with the opening of a contemporary property in the Japanese city of Nagasaki.

Hilton Nagasaki has started welcoming guests eager to explore one of Asia’s cultural gems.

A growing Japanese footprint

The new Hilton Nagasaki is an important landmark for a number of reasons: it’s Hilton Worldwide’s 500th property in the APAC market, only the second Hilton hotel in the whole of Kyushu, and the brand’s first outpost in this celebrated city. The hotel aims to appeal to business and leisure travellers alike, and benefits from a direct link to the Dejima Messe Nagasaki convention centre.

Alan Watts, president of Asia Pacific for Hilton, said: “The opening of Hilton Nagasaki is especially significant as it marks our 500th hotel in Asia Pacific. Reaching such a milestone during this uncertain time is a testament to Hilton’s resilience and commitment to setting the benchmark for hospitality in the world’s most sought-after destinations.

“Nagasaki has long represented a gateway to Japan, and we are delighted to partner with Gloverhill Inc to bring the first Hilton hotel to the city as we continue to expand our footprint in key destinations across the region.”

Hilton bets on Nagasaki

This 200-key hotel, complete with four suites, is located to the west of Nagasaki station, within easy reach of local highlights such as Mount Inasa, Glover Garden and Oura Cathedral.

Its contemporary interiors are inspired by Nagasaki’s heritage as a commercial port city. There are four F&B options onsite: Tamatsurumi, which specialises in Japanese cuisine; Fukukairo, serving up Chinese fare; De Vaert, an all-day dining outlet; and Seven Seas, focusing on afternoon teas and cocktails. There are also several flexible banquet and event spaces, as well as a fitness centre and bathing area.

Akiyoshi Matsufuji, president of Gloverhill Inc, said: “Nagasaki is undergoing a period of great transformation – one that occurs only every 100 years. This includes the opening of one of the largest convention centres in west Japan, the upcoming launch of the West Kyushu Shinkansen, which provides great access to Nagasaki, and the urban redevelopment of the site of the former Nagasaki Prefectural Government Office building.

“In such a time, we are honoured to manage Hilton Nagasaki and contribute to Nagasaki’s tourism industry. We will work closely with our local partners to offer guests an outstanding experience with hospitality that is truly unique to Nagasaki.”
