Hilton Worldwide’s German expansion shows no signs of slowing, with the hospitality giant having struck a deal to convert an existing hotel between Frankfurt and Stuttgart.

A contemporary property in south-west Germany is set to undergo a rebrand.

A growing portfolio in Germany

Hilton Worldwide has signed a franchise agreement to open Hilton Heidelberg at Kurfuersten-Anlage 1, which is currently home to a Crowne Plaza hotel, in the centre of the town. The property is owned by real estate investment manager Invesco Real Estate.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of development in EMEA for Hilton, said: “Hilton Heidelberg is an exciting addition to our growing portfolio in Germany and builds on the significant momentum in conversion demand for our brands. More and more owners are choosing to affiliate with our upscale and collection brands, a testament to the strength of Hilton’s commercial systems and international brand awareness.”

Hans-Peter Hermann, senior director of hotel asset management at Invesco Real Estate, added: “Invesco Real Estate is investing in refurbishing and repositioning the hotel into a market leader benefitting from the Hilton brand. Our investment programme for the Hilton Heidelberg is targeting a Breeam in Refurbishment certificate, complementing its ESG [environmental, social and governance] strategic priority focus across its entire hotel portfolio.”

Hilton heads to Heidelberg

Following refurbishment, Hilton Heidelberg will enable travellers to discover a town that’s celebrated for its history, gothic architecture and thriving scientific community in style. The property will place guests within a short walk of the baroque old town as well as Heidelberg Castle, while the 14th-century Heidelberg University, the oldest in Germany, is just 3 km away.

The new-look scheme will house 244 guestrooms and suites, along with a restaurant, bar, executive lounge and gym. There’ll also be more than 550 sq m of meeting space across seven conference rooms.

Hilton Heidelberg is expected to open in the summer of 2022.
