Together, Hampton Design Studios and Accor’s Design & Technical Services team are transforming a hotel on England’s south coast ahead of its debut as an Ibis Styles property.
Accor’s 30th Ibis Styles hotel in the UK, a 76-key Bournemouth property signed with NQ2, is set to make its debut in June 2021.
Accor shows confidence in Bournemouth’s prospects
Ibis Styles Bournemouth is replacing an existing hotel that dates back to 1936. The property, Accor’s second with NQ2, has been completely redesigned ahead of the new hotel’s opening this summer.
“Growing up in Bournemouth myself, I know only too well that the town has been one of the UK’s leading seaside resorts for many generations,” said Philip Lassman, VP of development for Accor Northern Europe. “Bournemouth has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years, particularly in the last 12 months as the UK has embraced staycations.
“The UK’s coastline continues to attract demand domestically and internationally and the opening of this hotel reflects our positivity toward UK development. We believe this new hotel is an excellent addition to the Ibis Styles portfolio and very much look forward to further serving the Bournemouth community and visitors to the stunning area.”
“Bournemouth is thriving, and we are proud to continue our investment and commitment to the town’s hotel and tourism industry,” added Toby Barnes-Taylor from NQ2. “The new Ibis Styles hotel and the existing Mercure Bournemouth Queen’s Hotel & Spa are symptomatic of the confidence we and Accor have in the current and longstanding appeal of the coastal town.”
A colour palette inspired by ice cream
In line with all other properties in the Ibis Styles portfolio, this outpost will tell a story through its unique design. At Ibis Styles Bournemouth, guests can expect contemporary interiors incorporating the colours of ice cream, which Bournemouth is known for, giving it a bright and nostalgic feel.
The transformation has been led by Hampton Design Studios, which has worked in collaboration with Accor’s Design & Technical Services team. On opening, the hotel will host guests and locals in a space comprising 76 guestrooms, a ground-floor bar, a lounge, a large restaurant, a kids’ zone and an ice-cream station.
“There’s nothing better than an ice cream on a hot summer day by the seaside and it’s that emotion we have tried to capture in the hotel’s design,” said Ana Jorge, executive director of Design & Technical Services Eco & Midscale Brands for Accor Northern Europe. “With their bold yet sophisticated colours, they give a bright, cheerful, nostalgic feel to the bedrooms with a gentle nod to the art-deco pastel palette of the architecture that is so well-known in Bournemouth.”
The hotel is a short walk from the beach and iconic sites like Bournemouth Pier. It’s also just a three-minute drive from Bournemouth’s train station and 20 minutes by car from Bournemouth Airport.
