Radisson pushes for growth around the world and takes ambitious steps to expand its portfolio in emerging markets other groups are slow to enter.

Radisson has ambitious plans for the coming years and plans to grow its portfolio in both established and emerging markets around the world.

The TOPHOTELPROJECTS database shows where the group plans on opening its 198 new hotels and 39,051 rooms.

Radisson expands worldwide

Unlike many other groups who are pushing for growth mainly in the APAC region or in North America, Radisson’s fastest growing region is Europe with 48 new hotels and 8,576 rooms. Asia Pacific comes in a close second spot with 46 properties and 8,918 rooms.

Some might find it surprising that Africa takes third place with 44 openings and 8,205 rooms. This expansion follows Radisson’s goal to break into emerging markets and in many cases become the first international brand to launch a property in these destinations.

The Middle East will see 38 hotel launches and 9,610 new rooms, while North and South America will only get 18 and 4 new properties each.

Of the 198 properties, 105 will be in the 4-star segment, while the remaining 93 will receive 5 stars.

Radisson’s top 5 national growth markets

Even though the Middle East ranks fourth out of the six global growth regions, it is home to the country with the highest number of Radisson launches: Saudi Arabia with 18 projects and 5,042 rooms. India follows with 17 openings but only 2,580 rooms, meaning properties there will be a lot smaller on average than in Saudi Arabia.

The United States also made the top 5 with 11 new hotels, as did China with 8 and the United Arab Emirates with 6.

Steady growth in the coming years

Another 15 projects are set to launch in 2019, adding 2,872 rooms to Radisson’s portfolio. For 2020, the pipeline contains 74 hotels and 12,837 rooms, making it the busiest year in the near future.

For 2021, the company has already signed off on 44 hotels and 9,292 rooms and another 32 properties will follow in 2022. For 2023 and beyond, things are also looking positive since 33 projects are in the pipeline as of now, with more likely to be added.

Radisson’s noteworthy hotel projects

Since Radisson’s largest project, the 1,251-room Radisson Blu Al Hidaya in Mecca, is currently on hold, let’s look at their second largest project, the Radisson Blu Hoi An in Vietnam. It is slated to open by Q2, 2021 and will become the company’s largest property in the APAC portfolio. Guests here can avail of luxurious amenities, exquisite dining in three venues as well as a variety of water sports.

The 400-key Park Inn by Radisson Hotel & Apartments, Dammam West Avenue in Saudi Arabia will be part of a mixed-use project with a commercial centre, hospitality and lifestyle developments. Facilities will include a gym, an outdoor swimming pool, a spa and a kid’s club as well as a range of meeting rooms and restaurants.

Radisson Blu Anaheim will be perfectly positioned between the Anaheim Business & Industrial Park and Disneyland® Resort and provides everything for a corporate trip or dream vacation to Southern California. The 326-room new-build hotel is set to launch in late 2020 and will be Anaheim’s tallest hotel including a variety of amenities such as a family activity space, a rooftop pool and bar, a fitness centre and a restaurant.
