Group overview: Radisson to grow footprint by over 43,000 rooms [Construction Report]

We dive into the TOPHOTELPROJECTS database to learn more about Radisson Hotel Group’s project development pipeline.

Our figures indicate that Radisson will open 231 new hotels with a total of 43,831 rooms in the coming years. As one of the world’s largest hotel groups, it already has a significant presence globally, and this data confirms that the company’s footprint is continuing to grow at a remarkable rate.

Radisson’s ambitious hotel pipeline

Before the end of 2020, Radisson plans on opening a further 73 new hotels with 12,319 rooms. Another 59 projects with 11,982 rooms are in the pipeline for 2021. 2022 will see 51 Radisson hotels launch, growing the group’s portfolio by another 9,186 rooms, while 48 more properties with 10,344 keys are on the books for 2023 and beyond.

Of Radisson’s 231 new projects, 141 hotels will be in the 4-star segment while the remaining 90 will be in the 5-star category.

Identifying the most active regions for Radisson

Radisson currently plans to open 72 hotels with 12,606 keys in Asia Pacific, making it the fastest-growing region for the group. Europe follows in second place with a pipeline of 55 properties and 9,676 rooms, and Africa comes in third with 44 confirmed hotels and 8,107 keys.

Elsewhere, the Middle East will see 33 new hotels open, adding 9,161 rooms to the region’s offering. And 21 Radisson hotels with 3,420 rooms will open across North America, while six launches with 861 rooms are planned for South America.

Turning our attention to Radisson’s top five national growth markets, India leads the list with 30 projects and 4,124 rooms in the works. A pipeline of 17 properties and 5,000 rooms puts Saudi Arabia in second place, followed by the US with 14 hotels and 2,350 rooms. China and the UAE complete the list with 11 and seven openings respectively.

Radisson’s fastest-growing hotel brands

The group’s upscale Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts brand will be its biggest growth driver in the coming years – 72 hotels with 16,290 rooms are planned to open under the Radisson Blu flag alone.

The signature Radisson Hotels & Resorts brand follows in second place with 63 planned openings and 11,333 keys, and Radisson RED is next in line with 37 properties and 6,693 rooms. Park Inn by Radisson will see 38 properties launch, adding 5,931 rooms to its portfolio. And finally, Radisson Collection’s footprint will grow by 18 hotels and 2,998 rooms, while Country Inns & Suites by Radisson is planning five openings and 586 additional keys.

Noteworthy hotel projects in the Radisson pipeline

There are plenty of exciting projects currently under development across Radisson’s extensive portfolio.

Radisson Blu Hoi An is the largest property in the pipeline, according to the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database. This 734-room Vietnamese hotel will launch in Q2 2021 and offer guests direct ocean access as well as extensive facilities, including a water sports and recreation centre, several swimming pools, spa, fitness center, kids’ club and rooftop garden. Radisson Blu Hoi An will also provide a choice of three restaurants serving authentic local and international cuisine, plus a lobby lounge and pool bar.

Another project currently turning heads is the 301-room Radisson Blu Haikou, strategically located in a free trade zone to be established by the Chinese government in the island province of Hainan. Due to open in Q4 2020, this newbuild hotel will offer uninterrupted views over Haikou Bay, which guests can enjoy from their smartly designed rooms.

Another newbuild, the 267-room Radisson RED Warsaw, will feature a restaurant and bar, a gym, and an 820 sq m creative meetings and events space. This property will be part of the 140-metre-high Liberty Tower and complement the rapidly changing Warsaw skyline.

In Norway’s capital, meanwhile, the 224-room Radisson RED Okern Oslo will feature spacious, bright rooms and suites, several meeting rooms, a restaurant and a rooftop bar that will offer unparalleled 360-degree views of the city.
