According to the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database, Choice Hotels International is on the expansion trail, and is particularly active in the US market.

Our researchers report that Choice Hotels International is planning to complete 60 hotel schemes, accounting for 7,559 rooms in total, over the coming years. We find out more about its growth plans.

When will Choice’s schemes be ready?

In 2021, 32 schemes with 4,018 rooms are due for completion. 2022 seems slow by comparison, with only eight planned openings and 916 keys.

Rapid expansion across the US

The US will get the overwhelming majority of Choice’s new properties – our records show that 55 hotels with a total of 7,010 rooms will launch across the country.

Meanwhile, Brazil and Canada will each see two new Choice hotels open, with 377 and 144 keys respectively. Only one launch is in the works for Europe, incidentally, and it’s a stylish 28-key boutique property in Italy.

Choice’s fastest growing brands

The TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database indicates that upscale brand Cambria Hotels is adding the largest number of schemes overall, with 43 openings and 5,728 keys.

By way of comparison, Comfort will grow its footprint by 13 properties and 1,470 rooms, Everhome Suites has three projects with 300 keys in the pipeline, and the Ascend Collection will expand by two hotels and 61 rooms.

Choice openings to keep tabs on

The 154-key Cambria Hotel Washington DC Capitol Riverfront will feature a spacious rooftop bar, 2,500 sq ft of multifunction meeting space, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, onsite dining and parking. Once it opens in Q1 2021, guests will be able to pop over to the popular Yards Park mixed-use development, which includes retail stores, fine-dining establishments, offices and luxury residential lofts. The property’s also just minutes away from Navy Yard metro station, offering convenient access to DC landmarks such as the National Mall and the Smithsonian museums.

Up in Michigan, the 154-room Cambria Hotel Detroit will be situated in a bustling downtown neighbourhood that’s played a vital role in the city’s renaissance – and is just a short drive away from high-profile businesses like Ford, General Motors and Chrysler. The hotel’s proximity to Wayne State University, Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit Medical Center and Tech Town should appeal to business travellers too. For tourists, moreover, there are a wealth of attractions nearby, including the Cobo Center, Little Caesars Arena, Comerica Park and Ford Field. The opening’s planned for Q3 2021.

Finally, we’d like to turn the spotlight onto Cambria Hotel Orlando, due to open this month. Set in downtown Orlando, this 153-room hotel boasts a resort pool and patio lounge area, more than 4,500 sq ft of multifunction meeting space, a state-of-the-art fitness centre and contemporary dining options. It’s located close to Lynx Central Station, the Amway Center, the University of Central Florida, Walt Disney World and the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center.
