According to TOPHOTELPROJECTS, The Ascott Limited will expand its portfolio by over 28,585 rooms globally.

The Ascott Limited plans to grow its international hotel portfolio by 154 projects and 28,585 rooms in the coming years.

We find out where the new hotels are planned and which of Ascott’s brands will grow fastest.

The Ascott Limited foresees steady growth

Before the global coronavirus crisis hit, The Ascott Limited planned to open 65 hotels with 14,457 rooms in 2020. With global travel restrictions and shutdowns hitting hotel groups hard, many openings are currently on hold. Whether The Ascott will be able to launch its new hotels as planned or not, in which case they may have to postpone some or all of them until 2021, will remain to be seen.

According to the TOPHOTELCONSTRUCTION online database, 154 hotel projects are currently in Ascott’s pipeline:

Even without spillover from 2020, The Ascott has 35 hotels in the pipeline for 2021 which will add 7,424 hotels to the group’s portfolio. 2022 will see 24 openings with 5,146 rooms while 30 launches are scheduled for 2023 and beyond.

The Ascott Limited’s growth by region

The Asia Pacific region is by far the fastest-growing one. Here, 135 hotels will add 26,201 rooms. The Middle East follows with 9 openings and 1,112 rooms, Europe is next with 7 properties and 914 rooms. Africa, South America and North America will get one new hotel each.

With APAC being so far in the lead, it’s unsurprising that the top 5 countries in terms of hotel openings as all in this region. China leads the pack with 60 projects and 11,352 rooms. Malaysia comes in a distant second place with 14 hotels and 3,502 rooms, followed by the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand with 13, 11 and 8 new projects respectively.

Quickly growing brands under The Ascott’s brand umbrella

With the demand for aparthotels always on the rise, The Ascott is catering to this expanding demand by investing heavily in its Citadines apart’hotels brand which has 69 projects with 12,567 rooms.

Somerset Serviced Residence, Ascott The Residence and Quest Serviced Apartments also fall into the upscale extended stay category and will grow by 40, 26 and 9 properties respectively.

The innovative lifestyle brand lyf will get 8 new hotels while the Crest Collection will see two openings.

Noteworthy projects in The Ascott’s pipeline

Located within UNESCO World Heritage City of Melaka, the 578-room Somerset Melaka Island enjoys proximity to an upcoming free trade zone and seaport. It is also about a 10-minute drive to popular historical and cultural attractions. Somerset Melaka Island will be part of a mixed-use development that also comprises a shopping mall. Its apartments will range from studio to three-bedroom units. The property will provide facilities including a breakfast atrium, gym, lounge, laundrette, bar, yoga and tea corner, jogging track, landscaped garden, and function rooms.

The 400-room Citadines Marina Halong which is scheduled for Q4 2020 has convenient access to the city centre and is a 10-minute drive to Halong Tourism Wharf and a 20-minute drive to the main industrial areas such as Cai Lan and Viet Hung. This serviced residence will offer accommodations ranging from studios to three-bedroom units, a fitness club, resident’s lounge and two swimming pools including a rooftop infinity pool with an adjoining rooftop bar.

Ascott Residence Trust will build the first co-living property in Singapore’s research and innovation business hub, One North. Located at Nepal Hill amidst 400 companies, 800 start-ups and 50,000 professionals, the 324-room lyf One North Singapore will target the growing millennial segment.

The Citadines Medini Iskandar Puteri is strategically located in Medini, the central business district of the Nusajaya flagship economic zone in Iskandar Malaysia. The 30-storey Citadines Medini Nusajaya is part of UMCity and it is close to the Johor State’s new administrative centre, Kota Iskandar, and EduCity – a regional education hub housing over 10 established educational institutions.
