Greece-based Metaxa Hospitality Group is to launch a five-year refurbishment and redevelopment plan for its flagship hotel in Crete.
Creta Maris Resort will be transformed with a new elevated offering and positioning. The family-owned all-inclusive resort first opened in 1975 and is located next to the seaside town of Hersonissos, close to Crete’s capital, Heraklion.
Five-star upgrade
The five-year plan will upgrade Creta Maris’s facilities and offering as a premium, five-star resort for families and couples with a variety of facilities and a new design aligned with its Cretan hospitality focus.
The first phase of the project launched this month, unveiling the resort’s new visual identity and repositioning. In the lead up to the seasonal reopening at the end of April 2023, Creta Maris will complete a refurbishment of the entrance and reception area to enhance and elevate the space with a new colour palette of pastel shades and warm neutral tones. A new lobby lounge will be added to create an inviting and welcoming arrival experience.
Pool facelift
Two of the hotel’s pools located seaside-adjacent to the resort’s Hersonissos Beach will be refurbished with new day beds. A new pool and grill bar will open near the main pool and will serve cocktails and fresh snacks in addition to the two existing pool bars.
The beach front will be renovated to create an open promenade for guests to enjoy uninterrupted views of the Aegean Sea, as well as the addition of new premium sun loungers.
Refreshed dining
Creta Maris will be extending its gastronomic offering with the opening of two new seaside restaurants, a Cretan BBQ restaurant which is an à la carte Cretan interpretation of a classic steakhouse and a new à la carte adults-only Cretan seafood restaurant.
Two of the resort’s existing restaurants will undergo refurbishments to their design and offering. The main restaurant will feature open show kitchens, live cooking demonstrations, and an interactive buffet. The other restaurant will offer a modern Greek cuisine concept with views across the main pool and beach.
Light bite additions
The resort will also be opening two new bars, the Lounge Bar which will be adjacent to the lobby and will include a large outside terrace overlooking the main pool and beach, and a new sea view adults-only cocktail bar offering a selection of Cretan-Greek mezze dishes.
Three new grab and go snack points will be added, including an ice cream station, a juice bar and a gyros rotisserie. A new adults-only Wine Cellar will serve a range of local Cretan and Greek wines, as well as recognised European and international labels. A custom-made temperature regulated wine cave will house a curated wine collection and offer a variety of wines by the bottle and the glass.
Increasing variety
The new F&B offerings are part of the resort’s re-positioning plan to increase its variety for families as well as for couples with new adults-only restaurants and bars. These new additions will increase the resort’s F&B offering to seven restaurants, 10 bars, and five snack points.
Guest bedrooms, entertainment offerings, and public areas, as well as additional outdoor amenities and the F&B outlets will be completed over the following five years.
