Grand Mercure to make Amritsar entry

Accor is expanding its Indian portfolio by bringing its upscale Grand Mercure brand to Amritsar for the first time.

Grand Mercure Amritsar Airport Road is the result of a signing with real estate firm R V Enterprises, and will open in 2026.

Key amenities

The property will feature 100 rooms, including five suites, while dining offerings will consist of two distinctive food and beverage outlets.

Key facilities include expansive 800 sq m banqueting space, a spa and fitness centre and a swimming pool. Ample parking will also be available onsite.

Amritsar commitment

Aniruddh Kumar, vice president of development, India and South Asia at Accor commented: “This project marks the debut of the first Grand Mercure in the iconic city of Amritsar, which consistently attracts millions of visitors year-round, drawn by its vibrant blend of cuisine, culture, and business opportunities.

“This venture underscores our shared commitment to nurturing the hospitality sector’s growth in Amritsar, by ensuring guests will be treated to an exceptional array of experiences, in line with our global legacy.”

New chapter

Sanjeev and Kirti Chadha, partners of R V Enterprises, added. “Every Grand Mercure property invites guests to experience and celebrate the region’s unique cuisine, ceremonies and cultural elements.

“The hotel will therefore herald a new chapter for Amritsar, a city known for its rich heritage and warm hospitality.

Indian additions

Elsewhere in northwest India, Accor is about to open Raffles Jaipur, a 200-key property being built as a set of private residences and courtyards adjacent to a larger hotel complex that currently houses Fairmont Jaipur.

Further ahead, Novotel City Centre New Delhi will bring 125 keys to the country’s capital in Q1 2024, and the 105-room Fairmont Shimla Fagu Resort will arrive in Q3 2026 with 5,500 sq ft of banqueting and events space, entertainment spaces, an indoor pool and spa, and multiple food and beverage outlets.
