Accor is building traction with its luxury Fairmont brand in Japan, signing a property in the ski destination of Niseko

The Fairmont luxury hotel brand has announced its latest portfolio addition will be in Japan, with the signing of Fairmont Niseko.

The new hotel will have 165 rooms, opening in early 2028 in a countryside setting, situated between Mount Yotei and Mount Annupuri. Set in nine acres of forest, the resort style property will provide a luxury retreat, with great views of the mountains from many of its rooms. The destination of Niseko is recognised around the world as a premier skiing and winter sports hub, with powder snow like nowhere else. Meanwhile, in summer, Niseko becomes a compelling destination for those keen on a round or two of golf.

A Second Japanese Property for the Brand

“Fairmont Niseko will be an exciting new landmark, marking our second property in Japan following the opening of Fairmont Tokyo last year,” noted Omer Acar, CEO of the Fairmont hotel brand at Accor. “This is a testament to our growing presence in this dynamic and alluring country and further reinforces Fairmont Hotels & Resorts’ leadership position in Asia, complemented by our deep experience operating premium ski and golf resorts in some of North America’s most compelling natural settings.”

And it is in Asia where most of Fairmont’s current pipeline is located. Upcoming openings, for example, include Fairmont Bangkok Sukhumvit, a luxurious addition to the skyline in the Thai capital. This is a major property, with 419 rooms, wellness and spa facility, multiple restaurants and a rooftop bar.

In China, Fairmont Dalian is in the final stages of pre-opening. The group recently signed Fairmont Hangzhou Huagang, one of a number of projects to be taken forward with Chinese partner Jin Jiang International.

In the UK, the brand has recently opened Fairmont Cheshire The Mere, a countryside estate with 116 rooms, a spa and 18 hole golf course. In the works is an additional site, the Fairmont Luton Hoo Hotel Golf & Spa. This is a rebranding of an existing property, which is undergoing refurbishment. It will open in late 2027, offering 228 rooms of luxury accommodation in a heritage property.

A Significant Role for Refurbishments

Alongside new builds, the brand is also benefiting from a major refurbishment programme, bringing existing Fairmont hotels up to the latest standards. Around 20% of the global portfolio is being worked on, in a rolling programme.

In the Americas, a slew of openings and upgrades is coming. Later in 2026, Fairmont New Orleans will launch. Offering 250 rooms in a converted mid century skyscraper, the hotel will feature familiar Fairmont touches, and guests will also be able to enjoy views from the rooftop pool deck and bar, on the block’s 31st floor. Accor is also preparing to relaunch Fairmont Southampton, on the island of Bermuda, where the existing hotel has been refurbished and extended. Additional planned rooms will take the hotel to 788 rooms.
