The Fairfield by Marriott brand is heightening its presence in Japan with seven hotel openings planned for 2022.
These seven openings across four of the country’s prefectures will bring the Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki portfolio to a total of 21 properties across Japan by the end of the year.
Encouraging exploration of Japan
Fairfield by Marriott’s seven new properties will open within the Nara, Hokkaido, Hyogo and Okayama prefectures. These openings continue the growth of the Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki project created in collaboration with Sekisui House in 2018 to highlight Fairfield by Marriott hotels located near Michi-no-Eki roadside rest stations.
These properties and roadside rest stations are all located near to national parks and UNESCO World Heritage sites. The Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki project encourages exploration of the country’s rural areas by road.
“We are very excited to continue to expand the Fairfield portfolio across Japan in collaboration with Sekisui House,” said Rajeev Menon, president in Asia Pacific (excluding China) for Marriott International.
“We have seen great success with Fairfield’s ‘Michi-no-Eki’ project, with 14 Fairfield by Marriott hotels already open across five prefectures in the country. We look forward to continuing to expand the brand’s footprint with new additions delivering Fairfield’s friendly service and warm hospitality in little-known destinations across Japan.”
Masahiro Taguchi, project director of Fairfield by Marriott’s Michi-no-Eki portfolio, commented: “We are pleased to expand our footprint to northern and southern Japan, offering travellers access to remote destinations in the country.”
“With the growing demand for self-drive travel, the new Fairfield by Marriott hotels will deliver on the brand’s principles of friendly service and warm hospitality for travellers to explore the unique destinations across Japan.”

The seven new hotels planned for 2022 debut include the 99-key Fairfield by Marriott Nara Tenri Yamanobenomichi, which is located outside the ancient capital of Nara and expected to open this March.
