Extravagant MetallArt stairs in the four-star superior hotel La Maison

The design staircase, featuring sculptural steel stringers and an underside soffit, is a beautiful attraction in itself and matches perfectly with the unique character of the selected venue in Saarlouis, belonging to the global brand Design Hotels.

Within walking distance of Saarlouis town centre, the historical villa of the former Supreme Administrative Court is part of the exclusive La Maison. The interior arrangement of the building combines francophile atmosphere with a modern and urban style, and thus creates a historic but most attractive atmosphere.

In addition to the exquisite gastronomic service, guests are invited to relax in the spacious wooded park of 2,365 sq m, featuring a terrace, circular path and fairy pond.

Amazing steel stringer stairs as stylish architectural element

With its evenly rounded six-flight ground plan, realised with a diameter of approximately 4,050 mm, the construction successfully completes the classy character of the inspiring interior concept of the hotel. The noble wooden step covering for the folded tread structure and the modern white lacquering of the steel parts result in an utmost harmonious appearance of the staircase.

Above all, the basis for the extraordinary design consists of parapet-high steel stringers on both sides and the structurally supporting soffit lining in smooth finish.

Captivating technical features in the light-flooded foyer

Besides its visual impact, the sophisticated soffit lining considerably contributes to the structural design of the staircase.

Furthermore, the vibration behaviour of the construction, having a self-supporting structure between the stair landings, is improved by this element. It consists of smooth-faced steel sheet, which was flush-welded in between the stringers according to the stairs run.

Railing design in steel and glass finish

The steel balustrade stringers serving as fall protection underline the puristic design of the steel stairs. In the upper part, they have openings in sections in order to produce an optical belt. The connection to the bottom railing is executed just in the distances which are structurally required.

These connections between the openings were completed with ornaments executed as rhombic frames. Matching the wooden steps, the profile shaped handrail along the inner steel balustrade stringer consists of European oak.

A fascinating contrast to the steel and wooden parts was achieved by the transparent all-glass railings for the edges of the ceilings on all floors. Besides their function as fall protection, the panes made of white glass are a discreet and elegant detail in the overall ensemble.
