Hyatt Hotels Corporation is celebrating the debut of another brand on the continent, with the launch of a 62-room property in an upmarket Johannesburg neighbourhood.
The Hyatt House flag continues to spread around the world at remarkable speed.
An appealing location in Johannesburg
The newly opened Hyatt House Johannesburg Sandton marks the brand’s long-awaited debut in Africa. Owned by an affiliate of Millat Properties, this contemporary and inviting 62-room property is ideally situated in the leafy Sandton neighbourhood.
From here, visitors can easily reach Sandton City Shopping Centre and Nelson Mandela Square, both known for their exciting dining and lifestyle venues. Since this area is popular with travellers and locals alike, guests at the new Hyatt House hotel will feel like they’re part of Johannesburg’s social scene from the day they arrive.
Hamza Farooqui, CEO of Millat Group, said: “Opening a hotel in the current global economic climate is not for the fainthearted, but I am resolute that in times of adversity, there is great opportunity. In South Africa’s case, when it comes to business and leisure tourism – in what we hope will be a post-pandemic environment – this property will become an important symbol of renewed local and regional economic growth.
“Our investment is a manifestation of the group’s central operating philosophy of strong belief and optimism in the bright future of the African continent. We are particularly proud of the property itself. Hyatt House Johannesburg Sandton offers modern and spacious rooms and apartments allowing guests to feel right at home in one of South Africa’s most important economic centres.”

A home away from home in Johannesburg
The property boasts the sort of attractive amenities that travellers increasingly expect on the road. The Commons and Outdoor Commons both provide ample space for relaxing, meeting friends or getting work done in a sociable setting, while the Medley restaurant and H Bar serve up healthy meals and tasty bites designed to keep their guests fully fuelled. At the 24-hour H Market, meanwhile, travellers can find snacks and treats to go, and the gym offers a place for them to stay in shape.
“Hyatt House Sandton is everything the name represents – a welcoming and warm environment that encourages guests to live like residents,” said hotel manager Atef Soliman.
“We want each and every guest who comes through our doors to feel that they can let their real-life routines roll on, even when they’re on the road. Whether guests are visiting for a short trip or an extended stay, we know Hyatt House Johannesburg Sandton is the perfect place to offer a personalised hotel experience that will make everyone feel right at home.”
